We arrived after midnight and after getting our rental car it was nearly 2AM.For us east coast time was 5 AM!... We had been driving around looking for hotels, being a weekday, prices were ridiculously high for those hotels that did have a room. We just needed a place to sleep for a few hours. Our last stop (just before we thought we would sleep in the car), was Residence Inn, San Mateo. I was welcomed with a smile by Michael, he found us a room and checking us in at a nice members weekend rate as it was early 4AM Friday now. He also gave us the next day check out so we could stay the day and night.

I would recommend this hotel to stay. It is small property in a neighborhood with everything you need nearby! Convenient to airport, highways and local attractions. Free parking. easy access to all Bay area and SF. The hospitality, amenities and comfortable beds is worth it. Try nearby Stanford area for cool eats and a great inexpensive retro theater offering double feature classic films with a real organist at intermission! also 5-10 min away is THE PANTRY family hole in the wall breakfast with great prices and awesome food! skip the free marriott one for this place A couple of issues:

That morning however just a few hours later, we awoke to loud leaf blowers at our door. the large gap under the door caused debri to cover our foyer tiles inside the room our entire stay The room was crowded and small for moving around and placing your luggage. Furniture pieces and decor though not bad clearly need updating. The bathroom and kitchen were clean, but the carpet and sofa spots and spills needed shampooing. Bedding was clean and comfortable. Towels new and nice. We did not recieved housekeeping as needed. When we returned that evening we had to walk to front desk to ask for towels and supplies which we carroedema back ourselves! However once again the overnight desk clerk I think named Michael, was apologetic with a sincere smile and friendliness. The next morning we heard the housekeeper knocking on next door but again never came to ours did she even know the room had guests staying??? Upon checkout the front desk said there were new hires in housekeeping as the reason. This would not deter us from staying again or recommending to others.
