TARGET IS RACIALLY PROFILING CUSTOMERS!!! A couple days ago i was racially profiled by the security guard at this Target in Foster City. I have been going to this Target for so many years, I had my special baby registry here and nothing like this have ever happened before. Even though I am mixed race, I don't encounter this kind of situation very often. It has been a while since I had to deal with some kind of racism, but this time I had my baby with me and it is one of the saddest situations you have to deal with in front your toddler. So this is what happened: As I am leaving Target, the security guard asks to see my receipt which I showed him (I had already realized that he was profiling me). I had everything under the stroller since I had my toddler and I was running some errands. Then, he starts questioning me about the other stuff I had under the stroller that was not on the receipt. He was actually asking detailed questions such as where and when I bought the other things I had under the stroller. At that point I was in disbelieve that he was actually thinking that I was stealing. I asked him if he stops every person to check their receipt and he says yes. Then, this lady walks by us and I tell her that he will ask for her receipt and I explained that I was being racially profiled. She realized that this was the situation right the way and told the security guard that for us moms the easiest way is to carry everything is under the stroller. At that point, I just asked to see the manager because having this situation happening in front of my baby was unacceptable. Amanda, the manager didn't do much. She let the guard walk away extremely disrespectfully and gave me the number I should call and make a complaint( because I asked for it). I returned everything I bought and definitely not going back to Target. Well, I wish that Target would better train their security guards and managers to avoid this kind of situation. At least places like Costco sees everyone's receipt. TARGET is letting their EMPLOYEES RACIALLY profile when it comes to decide who is shoplifting or not. I have AMAZON PRIME, and the only reason I was still going to Target was for the experience. Thanks to Amazon Prime I can get everything I can get at Target with 2 days free delivery and better prices than Target. Why was I still shopping at Target??? Target will soon have the same future as Sears.
P.S: After I said that I knew I was being racially profiled no one actually asked to confirm...

Target - San Mateo Fashion Island, 2220 Bridgepoint Parkway, San Mateo, CA 94004-1569)
Date of Experience: Tuesday, May 20, 2025, @ approx. 12:30 pm PST
Significant Spending: Over $1,000 at Target in May 2025 (including $310 at this location) - No longer shopping at Target due to this issue.
Complaint Overview:
My primary concern, and "call to actionâ to post reviews, was/is the complete lack of response from Target SMFI Management and Target USA Guest Relations following an official complaint - Case Ending: XXX XXX 307 lodged on May 20, 2025. After 10 calendar days / 8 business days, there has been no acknowledgment, despite Target's stated commitment to "Care" for guests and delivering an "Exceptional Guest Experience."
The complaint stems from an inappropriate and "bizarre" verbal interaction with a male self-checkout sales associate @ the entrance of the self-checkout area.
I have several physical limitations, which are not clearly visible: severe back pain, chronic fatigue from flu & turning 70 soon.
When I politely inquired about paper towels  location in the store, I was informed they were located at the back of the store.
The Target associate rudely dismissed my apparent overwhelmed facial expression by stating, (paraphrasing) "It was no big deal to go that far." He did this in a nanosecond and a nano breath with no ability for me to respond to his remark.
This directly contradicts Target's principles of "Inclusivity and Belonging" and making guests feel "seen, heard, and cared for," particularly concerning age and physical ability issues.
The absence of any follow-up from Target management or corporate, after lodging a complaint about such a disconcerting and personal situation, is perplexing and disturbing.
It clearly suggests a disconnect from their mission "to help all families (people) discover the joy of everyday life" and their core value to "Care" for guests.
My expectation for a prompt response (within 3-5 business days) was not met, leading to significant disappointment and a decision to no longer support Target.
I appreciate the time and effort you spent reading...
Read moreIts a decent store. I feel bad for the people that work there.. sure the lines are long, the cashiers can be slow, and some workers don't have the forced fake smiles, but it still amazes me the sense of entitlement and outrage some customers have in this review section. If you are one of these people that are pissed off at the staff for not acting like you are their king/queen, seriously take a step back and look at your behavior. The people working here are not making anything remotely close to more than $40,000 a year from working here as "part time" employees (part time work designation is the only option they have because target doesn't want to pay for the wages and benefits of full time workers). How do you seriously expect the staff to happily kiss your @#& when the wages they get don't even cover the cost to rent the cheapest and most disgusting room or apartment within an hour commute to this target? How about instead of trying to get a grandma or single mother fired for not being ecstatic that they have the privilege of helping you spend a few days worth of their wages on junk food and other comically unnecessary stuff, you just tell them thank you. I can almost guarantee that the staff is working harder on any given day than your worst day in the past year. Outraged customers should be embarrassed by their behavior. It is mind boggling how consistently people act like they have just suffered through a terrible hardship of having to wait two extra minutes to buy their cart full of unnecessary junk food and that the person ringing them up deserves to be fired and suffer through an even harder existence because of their minute and a half of slight...
