It’s been a few years admittedly, since I had visited this location. Understand I have been going to MRS hobbies when they were in Union Square in the first location and in the second location I spent hundreds of hours. So almost 30 years. The slot cars were a huge draw when I was younger. Though the coin and ball card shop next door robbed me. I can now genuinely say that I will not go into MRS hobbies again. Not because of who they are or what they offer or because of the staff or location. A++ service . How do I say this correctly. I was the only straight white male presenting person of twelve people in the building on a Monday morning. It’s not a safe place to take your kids to learn a hobby. I understand that they are chasing the dollar. And that they’re going to change what they offer for what they can stay in business with. But when I went to MRS hobbies originally as a child, it was all about home made balsa airplanes with monokote coverings, and some of the things I couldn’t afford. It was elite. Now they’re just pandering to the most mentally ill of us with...
Read moreSaw the Axial SCX24 RC Crawler (which retails for $119.99, more on that later) being demoed at the Off Road Expo earlier this year and thought it was really cool, so my wife wanted to buy me one for my birthday this month. She looked online (Google shopping search pointing to a listing for the crawler by MRS through Pointy) and saw that MRS Hobby had at least one variant of it in stock, so she went into their store to purchase it for me. Was told by the owner that he'd never heard of the model, and that the only RC crawler they have in stock is a $549.99 (MSRP) Traxxas TRX-4, and proceeded to try to talk her into buying that. She was not convinced, thankfully, but this was a clear case of a business trying to take advantage of a customer who didn't have a lot of knowledge about the hobby. The owner of all people trying to upsell her to a product that costs 5X as much?!?!? Ridiculous. There's plenty of other hobby stores in the Salt Lake valley, go find one that isn't trying to make...
Read moreHad issues with a pre order overcharge and very poor customer service from one of the employees. Upon being overcharged I had to continually call to ask about the refund for about a month. I was patient and understanding, but the older employee there was very rude and would get mad at me for the mistake on their end. He even got short with me when I went to pick up my order and tried to get me to refund my order and "take my money elsewhere". Ironic he could refund the whole order on the spot, but not my over charge fee. The older employee there wasn't professional, lacks some basic manners and communication skills. Don't get short with customers for your mistakes. The rest of the employees were fine, but this guy needs some retraining.
It wasn't worth the grief,...
