First time going here. Never been to a dog park before. Coco was nervous and scared the majority of the time even though we sat in a far corner way from everything. We sat there for a while with a few dogs (not the owners) coming over to sniff and say "hi". Coco did ok with that. The owners would just call their dog back as if to say, "no we dont play with THOSE types of dogs". You know how bougie haughty elitist snobbish east siders do it. The dogs were wonderful. Wanting to play with any and all dogs that were there. The owners, of course, did what humans do. Stood in little groups talking amongst each other while ignoring the dogs then getting mad at the dogs if they got aggressive with each other. One group was sitting at a little pavilion with others in the group standing around, some blocking the walk path. They would see you coming, continue talking and pretend not to hear you when you would say "excuse me". They would just slowly shuffle to move out of the way or not at all. The whole time Coco and I were there (38 mins) only 2 people actually came over to be friendly with Coco. Only 1 couple actually interacted with Coco and talked with me on 1 of our laps around the dog park. The park itself is ok. Asphalt and wood chips for ground cover. I guess it hasn't been updated in at least 10yrs. Wood chips are bad for paws. How would you like to walk around on those barefooted?! NOT FUN! It has nothing for the dogs to play on. So bring your own toys. The water fountain does not work. So bring your own and cup or bowl. Also be prepared to be snubbed just for not already being in a clique. Put all that together and what do you get, a craptastic dog...
Read moreSandy City Dog Park is hidden within a residence area. The "parking lot" is not paved and is very bumpy. There are two main fenced areas for the dogs to play in. One is just a plain dirt field with trees and benches around the edges of the park. The other fenced area is mostly filled with grass and rocks. It also has a paved path for walks. There are more areas to sit in the shade in the grassy fenced area than the dirt area because there are a lot more trees.
One thing to keep in mind is that your dog can get VERY dirty when it rains, especially when it's in the bare dirt area of the park. The "parking lot" also gets very muddy because it's just an unpaved dirt lot.
I mostly encounter bigger breeds of dogs there, but there are always a few small dogs. However, you have to bring your small dog with caution because depending on how aggressive the other big dogs are, sometimes the smaller dogs are chased or caught in between dangerous play fights.
This park does not require a pass of any sort, like the Taylorsville Park does; however, this leaves the opportunity for any dog to join in on the fun, so sometimes owners with aggressive dogs will bring them in and you just have to be careful for the safety of your dog and others. The area is pretty clean. The park provides poo bags and water fountains for you (except I would not drink out of that...) and your dog. There are places to sit, and the fenced off areas are reliable with no breaks within the fence or openings for your...
Read moreWe have been coming here for over 7 years. I do not know if it is new people moving to the area or what, but people suck at training their dogs. If your dog isn't neutered, do not bring it. Most intact male dogs are obnoxious and aggressive. If your dog can't get along with dogs of ALL sizes, don't bring it. If your dog can't leave another dog alone and won't listen to you off leash, don't bring it. If you are the one with the aggressive dog that waits by the gate, stop bringing your dog until it is trained. Simple. The people here used to be responsible and supervise their dogs properly, but lately my medium size and small dog get beat up in close call situations. These dumb dog owners do not take accountability or pay attention at all. We can't even walk in the gate or let them free roam without some moron letting their large dog pummel my dogs into the ground and get out of control. It is like they are prey driven and any dog under 30 lbs is a target. I end up yanking my dog(s) away from them and trying to use my own body to get them to stop. My dogs are super kind to everyone and shy, so it's really sad. After this happening in some form the last few visits, we are no longer coming back. Implement stricter rules, regulate the dog park, and their...
