SHADY OWNERSHIP, DODGY MANAGEMENT: I explained that the event I was planning on attending was cancelled due to inclement weather on the morning of my arrival. So I (politely) asked if they could make an exception and refund the cancellation fee. The manager sounded empathetic but kept beating around the bush asking me to check back the following day, call back the following week, saying the owners haven’t got back to him. A week later after my cancelled reservation, the event rescheduled for the following week. So I asked if the property could provide a voucher. More beating around the bush. I understand my cancellation policy was non-refundable but the way they handle refund and exception requests is a complete mess. Stop making excuses and be more accountable! I can’t help it if a snowstorm cancels an event in the same day of my arrival! Have some empathy and accountability! I come up to Sault Ste. Marie several times a year ready to spend several hundred dollars on each stay (even in the slow season!). I do not think this property shows it has much ethics or responsibility. They will keep take your money whether you stayed or not. I understand the cancellation policy. Yes no refunds for cancellations with 24 hours. I didn’t cancel the event. The weather made it virtually impossible to attend. This reminds me of during COVID when properties wouldn’t refund cancellations because of towns locking down or guests being too sick to travel. Non-refundable, no vouchers, no exceptions; It’s unfair and it’s unethical. Shame on this business. 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻

Best value if you're going to the Soo to watch boats. It's right across from the Locks and the rooms are very clean and have free WiFi. Would absolutely stay again. Update on 07/10/22: Much has changed since I was last here. I understand that this is an Ecotel, and that some things may be omitted due to this. First of all, the room did not have hand soap for the bathroom. I get that the earth-conscious idea is that it might be wasteful to put hand soap in the bathroom that is individually wrapped, but if that is the case then there should at least be some re-fillable dispensers. I went to the desk to ask for some soap, but no one was there, so I went and bought my own to bring home with me. Secondly, there was stuff left behind from the previous person left in the room, which I was happy to just toss but it should not have been there to begin with. Lastly, I honestly don't care if you charge $10/night more but the towels in the room are terrible. I can't see why it wouldn't be worth the guest comfort factor to upgrade from the horrid towels in the bathroom. I wouldn't dry my car with them, they are super rough and cheap.

Management and office crew very rude and unprofessional. We stayed 2 nights due to my daughter being employed there. There was No family discount and the best thing was it was clean. The first desk lady was very rude and when i asked to speak to the mananger she was never there... Then my husband and I realized never seen the manager on duty at all. A sweet young housekeeper helped the best she could with what she could and I tipped her greatly for that. Housekeeping helped more then any of them. I really hope changes are made before next season. We love this area and would greatly love to come back. We have been up this way for years to see family. Clearly something is wrong with the management. When they pay no mind to guest concerns. I asked how to get a hold of the owners (e-mail) due to my concerns and was denied. Once upon time this was a friendly family place now not so much. Sad to see that.

I give this motel five stars as motels go. The room was clean and comfortable, with the appearance of recent remodeling. Hot shower, clean coffee pot, and microwave. I had only spoken with one young man, who was there when we checked in, and when we checked out. Continental breakfast was available. We enjoyed some good biscuits and bagles and coffee. A very sweet woman, who was busily cleaning up after other guests. Spoke with my wife about her Filipino friend, as my wife is Filipino. The location is fantastic, across from the locs and in walking distance to about available attractions, and close to border of Canada. We enjoy motels as we don't need the amenities of pools, etc, which are not available here. We generally need a comfortable rest, which was provided.

The room (cottage?) stank like old cigarettes, only one light out of three in the bathroom worked ( I even tried moving the working bulb into a different socket to see if that was the issue, but it was just a bad fixture ), the carpet squares were coming up all around the room, the headboards were all worn down looking like someone had dragged them down the road, the nightstand (pictured) looked equally bad and had trim falling off, the fixture above the nightstand looked like it was about to fall off the wall. I don't know when the trend changed, but a person use to be able to spend $120+ a night and get a place that felt like it was worth that. Now it seems like you can spend $120+ and get that $40 a night feel. The location was great though.

not what we booked. We booked the king suite, balcony with a view and this is what we got. (look at picture). Walls were paper thin and you can hear the neighbors conversations word for word. The room was TINY and the bathroom even tinier. Do not get the ground floor too because you can hear the people above you trouncing around with every step they take. When we 1st inspected our room the bed was partially made, the bathroom toilet had hair on it and the whole room smelled heavy of room deodorizer. We went back to the front desk to request a different room and was told they couldn't offer us a different room because they were all booked.Only positive of this place is that it is walking distance from the Soo locks. restaurants and gift shops.
