Karen, the supervisor did not help the customer who was bleeding. My 8 year old son got his finger bitten by the hamster and started bleeding. The skin was punctured. I took my son to a staff member and he didn't know what to do. I asked for first aid kit and he started walking towards the back. I assumed he was getting the first aid kit and took my son to the restroom to clean the wound. We used soap and water. After we came out, the same staff was with another customer. I waited and our eyes met. But, he didn't come. I went up to him and asked for first aid and he put his left hand inside his pocket and handed me a band aid. He said it happens all the time. No word of assurance that their hamsters do not have rabies, vaccinated and clean. No word of comfort or sympathy towards the child who was bleeding. No antibiotics. No first aid kit. It was clear that the staff was not trained for helping customers who get bitten by their animals. He didn't bring out the first aid kit. He was not going to take further actions. I asked to write a report as we need to take him to an immediate care. He said his manager needs to write the report. Karen came and she seemed very young but was very cold and rude. She was a total disappointment. She simply said "It happens all the time". Bad things happening all the time doesn't make it ok. That requires improvements and changes. Again, No word of assurance even from the supervisor that their hamsters do not have rabies, vaccinated and clean. No word of comfort or sympathy towards the child who was bleeding. I filled out the report, and we went to immediate care and talked with our pediatric doctor. The doctor said the rabies can kill a child in 24 hours. And, my son never took a shot for rabies and asked to go to the hospital and find out the condition of the hamster at the petland hoffman estate immediately. My husband and I called the pet store before heading to the hospital as advised and asked the condition of their hamster and Karen said "Our hamsters are not vaccinated, but they don't have rabies". If she had shared the condition of their hamster and assured the customer who got hurt that he will be ok by simply providing antibiotics after washing the wound would have saved us an hour of panic and going to the immediate care and talking to the doctor. After confirming that their hamsters do not have rabies, we went to Target and purchased first aid kit and wiped the wound and put antibiotics and a band aid. After treating him, I went to the store again to provide feedback. So, they handle similar issues better next time. I've asked Karen if they have first aid kit and she said "Yes". I asked her what is in the first aid kit and she aid "Wipes, Antibiotics and band aid". Why didn't they provide Wipes and Antibiotics in the first place then??? Why just give a single band aid? I gave her a direct feedback hoping she would improve the way she handles such situation and train her staff appropriately. I've asked her "In the future" to provide the condition of their pets and assure the customer who gets hurt that they will be ok and tell them to wash the wound and give antibiotics. This was constructive feedback, but as a person in a supervisor role, my thought process was that she will take it. I was very disappointed by what she said. She said " I've been working here for a year and I don't have to listen to you. You can talk to corporate". Please find another location to find your pet. I wish I can give it...
Read moreThe only reason I remotely like this place is because you can interact with the animals, which in itself is a double edged sword because not only are the animals being forced to play with grabby hands all day, but they can get diseases. I've played with some puppies there, most of which were relatively nice but they're just babies so of course you should expect them to nip, but all the animals are kept in INCREDIBLY small cages, often with another dog!! These cages are BARELY 2ftx2ft for the smaller pups, which are often kept in pairs. The bigger ones (German Shepherds, Rotts, etc) are kept in slightly larger cages, usually by themselves. Every cage I've seen was dirty and cramped. The kittens are the same; last time I went, this poor dirty Persian kitten was SLEEPING in its LITTER BOX. I have known one person who purchased a dog from here, and she was very sick when they first got her (which the store was aware of) and she had ticks! My sister purchased a very nice hamster from here, but it died last week after only having it for a month. The place is noisy and not well managed. I sincerely feel bad for ANY animal that has been quartered here, no matter how long they lived and how healthy they were. Outside the animals, the merchandise is way too overpriced. My family keeps fish as well, and every time we've bought them from Aquarium Adventure, we have gotten extras because a couple always die within the first week or so. Thankfully, the AA staff is usually knowledgeable about their fish, but the Petland staff is awkward and not very helpful. They need to hire people who genuinely care about animals and their well being. The only time a staff member actually helped me was when my cousin wanted to purchase a wheel for her rabbit, and a staff member noticed this and told her that rabbits cannot use wheels, so we are thankful that she jumped in or else something bad could've happened. I've met the manager and he was very huffy, not only to me, a customer, but to the staff member I was talking to at the time. Also, I own a bearded dragon and the reptile section of AA concerns me mainly because of substrate choices (they house the lizards on sand, which they can swallow and cause impaction; newspaper is a super cheap alternative) and what they feed them (i've seen mainly dried vitamin pellets and mealworms); thankfully I have yet to see two adult beardies housed together, though one I saw last time was severely overweight as beardies are prone to be. IN CONCLUSION, I'd just avoid going here, the cons heavily outweigh the pros and I wish this establishment were investigated, because it would immediately...
Read moreI love Petland, Iâve been their customer my whole life
I know petland no longer has dogs since some of their dogs were from puppy mills, but our dog we adopted from here was from an actual breeder and she lived until she was 15 years old and 11 months. Our bunny we adopted from here previously lived until she was 12 years old and 3 months.
We went there recently to ask about our dogâs breeder if theyâre still in the system but they were not since we got her 15 years ago..đ we adopted a bunny because she reminded my mom of her old dog.
Petland is much better than before now that there are no dogs, some of the workers seem to be looking carefully at the bunny section but some of them do not.
Our animals always start trembling when we take them to petland to shop for their food or supplies because they have traumatic memories. We never take them back after that. My dog absolutely hated petland she was only there for 2 days đ
Although I love this place since I met all of my lovely family here, I hope the employees keep an eye on the children coming into the store. Yesterday we saw one of the bunnies that was extremely tiny and his whiskers were very disheveled and he seemed very hungry but scared to come out. We were standing in front of his area where he and his siblings are, and he was finally eating food and drinking water but looked very cautious while doing so.
All of a sudden some little kid decides she wants to grab him and picks him up in a way his body got twisted, and she was like âwhat happened to himâ and asked her grandma to hold him but her grandma couldnât hold the bunny either. When they put him back he was so scared he ran back to the little house thingy where he can hide, and his siblings were consoling him and hiding him so no others can treat him that way.
I think the employees should check up on these rabbits because the same little girl almost dropped one because he didnât want to be held but she held him suddenly and he started trying to run away. It is a pet store but the customers can be taught respect. Animals are...
