IF NO ONE IN YOUR GROUP HAS EVER BEEN TO TEXAS DE BRAZIL, READ THIS!

So on my quest to experience all steakhouses in Chicagoland, I visited the Texas de Brazil at Woodfield Mall last night. Full disclosure: I visit Brazil often so part of me was sure this was some goofy American gimmick restaurant. That said, while there's definitely a strong American influence in the concept, the food was authentic and didn't disappoint! Vaiiiiii Brasil!!

Now, on to the experience itself: there are no menus. I didn't see any prices posted and there was no mention of any prices either so I was extremely confused. I knew it was going to be over $50 though, thanks to some other reviews. I wasn't at all sure what I was in for, though, so I asked my server to explain it to me and I got something like:

"ok so first you go to the salad bar and you can go back as many times as you like. After that, turn this cardboard circle over to the green side and your meat will come."

I had questions. "Which meat?"

"All of it! You choose what you want and then use these little tongs to take your meat."

I had visions of someone showing up with a huge tray of meat that I would have to choose my main course from. Thankfully, I was wrong. Here's how it actually works:

Your cardboard disc has two sides, red and green. As long as you aren't actively ready to select meat, keep the red side facing up. Get your salad bar food (all delicious, constantly being refreshed). There's a separate table with hot items - they're included with your meal, too.

You'll also receive bread (pão de queijo - yum!!!), warm bananas covered in sugar & cinnamon, and papas fritas (fries), which made me laugh because Brazilians really do serve fries with eeeeverything, even salads! haha!

Anyway, when you're hungry for your meat portions, turn your disc over to the green side and get ready because the meat servers zoom around the room to each table in a frenzy!! They'll scurry up to you with one type of meat on a long skewer, offer it to you quickly, give it to you, then fly off to the next table. You just take small pieces because, as long as your disc shows green, the meat servers dive bomb you nonstop - beef, shrimp, lamb, chicken, etc. It's delightfully hilarious and, while I've never seen anything like this in Brazil, it was greatly appreciated!

It didn't occur to me until I was almost finished that, if I ever wanted to take a break from the meat bombardment, I could have turned my disc back over to the red side. Duh. Eventually, I did just that lol

I also ordered the cheesecake (to go) and a Diet Coke. Drinks and desserts are sold separately.

All told, my bill before tip for one was $67. Was it worth...

I recently visited Texas de Brazil in Schaumburg and unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. From the moment we were seated, our waiter barely acknowledged us beyond the initial greeting. His behavior was noticeably aggressive, especially towards our table. When we sat down, he aggressively removed the other plate settings, causing the plates and glasses to clank loudly. Although we tried to overlook this and enjoy our lunch, his rudeness persisted.

When he brought my Sprite to the table, he did so aggressively and walked away while I was still trying to thank him. He didn't even ask if we wanted anything from the drink menu and just took it away. When I needed a refill, he grabbed the glass aggressively and placed the new one down in the same manner. It felt like everything related to our table was an inconvenience to him, despite him treating other tables around us normally.

My girlfriend eventually spoke to the manager about our experience. While I understand him defending his server, it felt like he didn't believe us at first. As a restaurant GM in the mornings and a server at night, I would have noticed such behavior from across the room and addressed it immediately. After explaining our situation and feeling dismissed with repeated apologies, we asked for the bill. The manager didn't charge us for the meat experience since we barely ate and were there for less than 20 minutes. We still ended up paying over $50 for an incomplete meal and went to the mall to eat somewhere else.

I'm still unsure why Carl, our server, treated us this way. It leaves me to believe it might be because I'm Hispanic or because he assumed we would leave a low tip due to our age. We've visited this location six times in the last month and a half, including my birthday on 2/14, which I always choose to celebrate here despite not being able to use my birthday reward due to the holiday. However, after this experience, we will not be returning. We're looking forward to the new Fogo opening...

This was my first time coming to Texas de brazi for my birthday and my friends and I were really excited. The food and restaurant were great, but the service we got was all over the place. I called twice the week before to confirm that our table would be able to split our bills, to which I was told yes by the manager. I even confirmed the day of for a 3rd time. When it comes to bill time after a great dinner, the waiter says they don't split checks. I told him I've confirmed three times and people even brought gift cards and he seemed very confused. We were then told we could do the math on our own to see what we would all individually owe and then let him know. After that he was very scarce and our table was left confused and trying to figure out the bill on our own. He came back later saying he spoke with the manager and said we were given bad information, even though I talked with that same manager earlier that morning. We ended up staying an extra 40 minutes after our meal trying to figure out the bill and get his attention, to which he talked circles around us. He even let two people in our party pay for themselves and told them not to tell the rest of the table to "avoid confusion". It was a really frustrating way to end our meal and I won't be coming back for any type of special event in the future. I felt very mislead and so did my guests. Frankly, they didn't want to do the work to split it and made us feel bad that we were taking so long to leave. Next time, don't make your customers split their own check and lie about what is possible. They also promised that my dessert and limoncello shot would be comped because it was my birthday, but it ended up being on the check. Go figure. Honestly outside of the food it was a poor experience at best. Wouldn't recommend for group...
