Yay! Amorino Gelato is here in Schaumburg!
Amorino is a gelato chain you will see everywhere in Europe. Last time we were in Downtown Chicago on Michigan Avenue, we were surprised and delighted to see one had opened there. Not long after, we saw another Amorino would soon be coming to Woodfield Mall, and now here it is!
There are plenty of gelato flavors on offer, and some macarons as well. At European Amorinos they always seem to give you a "free" macaron with your scoop of gelato, but it looks like they make you pay for that bonus macaron topping here (but I guess gelato shops aren't a dime a dozen here... yet!). Also somewhat noteworthy is that you place your order via touchscreen kiosk. That said, there are still staff members working behind the counter to offer you samples if you aren't sure which flavor you want.
Although we had just overeaten at dinner, we knew we still needed to get something from here. We decided on the tried-and-true lemon gelato along with blackcurrant. Both flavors are technically sorbets, so no lactose to worry about, if you do worry about such things.
Treats always taste better while on vacation (and cold treats even better still when it's warm outside), but I think our gelato tasted nearly just as good as at the other Amorino locations!
In short - you've gotta give it a try! If you like gelato, and live in the northwest suburbs, you will be thrilled to have Amorino so...

The organic chocolate and chocolate hazelnut gelato were smooth, creamy, and delicious! Not overly sweet or artificial tasting.
The process for ordering was confusing since there was no signage for where to order and unlike most ice cream/gelato places where you wait in line and then get asked what size cups/cones and flavors you want, you have to order at the kiosk. Then you wait for your name to be called in order to pick your flavors (you can’t choose your flavors on the kiosk, you choose the size of your cup on the kiosk).
The layout made ordering inefficient since you had to walk through the lines to the back of the shop to get to the kiosks for ordering. The disorganized layout also made the space feel extremely crowded since there wasn’t an organized line due to the ordering kiosk being in the back, the service being in the middle, and customers lining up near the front and middle to see the...
Read moreI stopped by here after some shopping with my wife and mother, since my mother craved something cold. At first it started off smooth with a sample scoop for my mother. Then when we went to order and pay, let's just say the cashier could've been a lot more kind in how she communicated, including her body language. Usually, you would tell the cashier exactly what you wanted and what size. She would cut us off not once, but multiple times. "I don't need the flavors, I just need your sizes", with a rude tone. Not once, not twice, but thrice. I wanted to look at her in the eye to tell her she didn't have to be rude, but I allowed her to proceed just to see if she realized how she sounded. Even my wife didn't appreciate it just off looking at her face, but I didn't let her stress herself over it. Her coworker, Diego, was a lot more respectful and kind. He immediately eased the tension. The female's name if I read her badge correctly is Alisa. I hope and pray she does better, not for us for the next and...
