Worked with Jean for my initial haircut to prepare for a friend's wedding. Going into the appointment, I had only 2 goals (not taking off too much hair length, and getting rid of some volume - that currently gave me more of a bulb-like lord farquad style). Context, I have thicker slightly coarse Asian hair, so it tends to puff out on the side. During the cut, I was looking down on my phone and by the time I had looked up, it ended up looking more mushroom-y/bulbus than before. I was pretty frustrated, but Jean was very polite & patient and tried to work with me to adjust the haircut in ways that would make it seem less mushroom-like - at the end taking off more length than I would have preferred. I called the shop asking for a refund/discount or any way to rectify the situation. The shop owner (Casey) chat with me to set up an appointment to help adjust my haircut (as part of their 7 day policy) and to educate my initial stylist on cutting thicker Asian hair (which we love to see), and though not offering any refunds, open to a slight discount on my next haircut. I will be updating this post once I have my 2nd appointment for adjustments, thanks!
Update 5/5/25: just revisited for some adjustments - Casey and Jean help adjusted my hair and I'm satisfied with the layering. I felt cared for - however, just wish I didn't have to be in this situation in the first place. My hair is still a tiny bit shorter than what I was hoping for, but satisfied with the general follow-up of my complaint. I wish they had offered a discount of some sort, but happy to see the owner educating their...
Read moreEnjoyed my experience here and my hair looked great after. Stylist was very nice throughout the appointment. The only criticism I have is that there is a lack of price transparency. Before adding something that would be an additional charge, stylists really should ask the client and verbally confirm that will be okay. I’ve done this before and was aware of how expensive the process would be, but would not recommend this to someone coming in for the first time.
*edit: Unfortunately editing my review to reflect more experience. During my latest visit, I was asked about an additional service which I had said no to. The service was done anyway, and I sadly didn’t notice until halfway through. I am a very shy person and paid anyway without speaking up. I did not know I have to say no multiple times as I never agreed to the service, and I don’t think I will be coming back because of this as I do not want to have to insist on only getting the services I actually want. I was also very unhappy with the length (time wise) and extent of my service as I think there was a miscommunication on what I wanted, but I don’t know enough about hair to speak up when it is happening in the moment. More clarification would be appreciated for customers who are not very knowledgeable on...
Read moreBishops in Fremont is where I go for all of my hair care needs - cut, color, and hair products. After a less than stellar coloring job a couple years ago from a different salon, I found Bishops and began my journey with them.
Linda was my first stylist; she genuinely cares about the health of your hair and will take the time to explain the best ways to care for your hair, no matter what condition, all while doing an excellent coloring job! My second visit with Linda was to add highlights with foils and recolor everything for my wedding! Foils is where Linda really shines. She is, for all intents and purposes, the FOIL QUEEN. I honestly wouldn't trust anyone else to do my wedding hair color, so I cleared my schedule for that visit. I've visited twice since then for recoloring, once with Aspen (who has since moved on) and the last with Linda, and both times were great.
I haven't had one bad experience at Bishops. I'm sure all the stylists are awesome, but as they'll tell you in store, once you start with a stylist it's recommended to stay with them because you've already developed a rapport with them and they knows your hair best. Thanks Linda...
