Where to begin with this bridal shop. To give you some background I am a size 16 in everyday clothes. I am from North Carolina and the bride found her dress, and our dresses at this shop. Since being from NC I had to go get measured from a tailor. Another bridesmaids called in my size and her size for us to order the dresses. The gowns was a Christina Wu. I was expecting a size 20/22. They sent me a 28, which is 12 sizes too big. With a month from the wedding I panicked and took it to a local tailor and had them alter it. With the inspection from the tailor we noticed the bottom was one side shorter than the other. With being a size B in breast the top was literally gapping and you could see everything. The tailor did her best but taking 12 sizes in was difficult.
I was hoping the shop would help with tailoring because it cost me 150 to get this 240 dress altered. The first told me they would try and help, and a week later I was told it was my fault for the sizing, but don’t worry, they offered to steam my dress for free since I was coming out of state! To help remedy the situation, the manager explained they would now make out of state bridesmaids sign off on their sizing via a new card they made to ‘avoid this from ever happening again.’ Too bad it was a little too late for the three bridesmaids affected by this fiasco. The manager was almost condescending when she spoke to me and 2 other bridesmaids. Instead of apologizing, she patronized and blamed us.
If you thought this story would end, well no. So gather around because this gets weird. One of the bridesmaids got her dress altered at the store. I thought for sure with her dress altered at the store it should have no problems: well I was mistaken.
This bridesmaids is a DDD breast size and a whopping 5’0 in height. She got her dress literally the day before the wedding. When it was time to get her dress on the day of the wedding it was a struggle and she could not breathe. The seamstress took too much in and added cups on top of it. Which should not have been a problem with the bridesmaid making her alteration appointment a month prior to the wedding. We tried to keep her calm but on the way to the church she was literally in pain.
I got in between this bridesmaids legs and started to figure out a way to help her breath. Looking at her dress I noticed the cups were sewed in with the easiest stitch. Taking a pair of tweezers and scissors I literally cut her bra cups out while she was in the dress on the way to church. I ended up ripping out the cups and ( as a joke, putting them in my dress to at least cover my breasts). When we got to the hotel later that night her ribcage was starting to bruise from being too tight. That is unacceptable by any standards.
Look, they probably mean well, but for the money, it’s...

I am extremely confident in my own skin, I have never let it stop me from feeling beautiful or feel like I am less worthy of finding clothes that work best for my body shape … UNTIL I went wedding dress shopping. I felt like I had a great attitude towards the whole thing, knowing that it’s just a sample, they order the size you need, your not the only one who may not fit sample size and so on. Until I had a not so awesome consultant at a very well known Michigan bridal shop. I know she was doing her best, but either I was her first plus size bride or she was just really new to the business. Needless to say it did make me question what my options were going to be.
Through my hunt for the one dress I felt most ok with, I contacted another shop to see if they had the dress in a closer to my own, size to try and see if seeing a more accurate size would make me feel more confident in my purchase. BLESS THIS OTHER STORE ! That sent me a response to my email request telling me that they would happily try to locate that dress for me but that they know of a PLUS SIZE INCLUSIVE Bridal shop. So let me just say my level of excitement was real !
BOMBSHELL’s owner Amanda was my consultant and I have NEVER felt more valued as a person, let alone as a customer.
Amanda went above, beyond, and back again to ensure that I had the most PERFECT experience I could have EVER asked for. She let me explore, she had me try on something in EVERY style so I knew EXACTLY what I looked good in, what I liked , what I didn’t, and what I wanted to see more of. I have NEVER had an experience where everything was either in my size, VERY close to my size or wait for it …. BIGGER then my size. It was surreal.
Not only did I find my PERFECT dress, I for the first time looked in the mirror and truly realized that I am not a little kid anymore. I am not just wearing a white dress and I am not just playing dress up. For the first time in this entire planning process I realized that low and behold… I am the BRIDE !
So if you, someone you love or just a stranger you meet in David’s bridal etc is looking for a dress and feel like they are settling for what fits ? Send them to BOMBSHELL BRIDAL BOUTIQUE or shoot them my way and I will PERSONALLY tell them about my experience , show them the ones I tried on and liked but because of being able to get a good idea of what it would be, found THE ONE ! I truly cannot wait for next year to wear this dress and marry the man of my dreams ! Stay tuned y’all cause you KNOW I’m not sharing pics til after the...
Read moreI 100% recommended visiting Bombshell Bridal if you are a plus-size person searching for a wedding dress. My visit was wonderful - from the moment before I walked in the door to hours after I left.
I traveled 2.5 hours to this store because of Bombshell’s dedication to providing beautiful dresses for plus-sized brides, because I knew that would feel SO much more comfortable in a store of people who just… get it. As a girl who has lived in a bigger body since adolescence, shopping for clothes has always been an exercise in frustration. Things that look cute in a photo or on the rack often let me down when I put it on my body. When I saw that Bombshell’s social media counts share photos of people with bodies like mine, wearing these stunning gowns, I made up my mind that this was going to be worth the travel.
I called the shop ahead of time when I needed to make an adjustment to how many people were joining me on my appointment day. I spoke with Kirah, who was incredibly kind and as enthusiastic for my appointment as I was. Though she was going to be out of town on the day of my appointment, she spoke with me on the phone about what pieces I was interested in looking at and what I was into so that there were notes ahead of my appointment - I loved that!
When I walked in the door, I was greeted warmly by Amanda and we got started right away! I came in with two dresses that I knew I wanted to try on, but was open to exploring the possibilities - I mean, I like lace, appliqué, anything that glitters and sparkles, pops of color… I got to pull a few choices, and had a couple suggestions from Amanda as well. I greatly appreciate that she asked if I was comfortable with her helping me get changed - I had assumed that it was a given for the consultant to change you during that time, but I LOVE that consent was requested.
Amanda was a cheerleader through my whole appointment. She understood almost immediately what caught my eye, she talked me up when I was feeling myself, and was so funny. The hour and a half flew by, but I feel like I tried in SO much in that time - and I didn’t feel an ounce of shame or embarrassment during my appointment. The whole occasion felt so joyful. I felt so confident and empowered, so when it was time to pick my dress, it was easy. And I picked something that at one point, I never thought I could pull off… but I CAN, and I WILL when I get married next June! :-)
Amanda, thank you from the bottom of my heart, for the joy you facilitated today. My family and I had a great time with you - and I can’t wait until I can FINALLY wear the dress of my dreams and show it to my...
