I travelled here this morning to take a quick photoshoot in the blooming sunflowers, and was not disappointed. They were so beautiful! And there are so many! It's was next to the dog park, and there are paths in the grass through the sunflowers. I'd definitely recommend bringing appropriate footwear, although my friend who came along did not, and although her feet got a little wet from the mornings dew, she got around fine. We walked around for a good hour following the little paths and trails within the sunflower patch and it was simply lovely. The bugs were minimal, though we were there in the morning, so the activity may or may not increase during the day. It was also very well kept, and clean, and the sunflowers looked so happy and healthy! We noticed that some of them had started to show seeds and there were many just about to bloom! The feild is free to look at, take photos, etc, however the park mentioned that they were accepting donations to enable upkeep, etc. I look forward to coming back and exploring more of this...
Read moreTook my puppy to the dog park for the first time. It was about a 30 minute drive from us and the entrance was easy to find. When we brought our dog to the entrance there was one specific dog that was growling, showing teeth, and barking at him (through the fence) His owner comes over and said “oh he isn’t neutered? That’s why, he doesn’t like un-neutered males and most of the dogs that are here don’t” I checked the park rules before considering this park as an option. Being neutered wasn’t a requirement, but aggressive dogs were listed as prohibited from the park. Since we do not want to put our puppy in potential danger, we had to enter the second gated area where my pet was the only one roaming the park. Super disappointed, this was supposed to be exciting for us and it did nothing but ensure we never return here. Stayed about 10 minutes and left. Seems like she frequents the dog park since she apparently knows all of the other dogs. Please find another dog park...
Read moreI love Windsor Castle Park - it is my favorite local park. I recommend it often to people who are visiting town for a short time that I work with in the military.
The approach from S Church Street to the bridge just before the Smithfield Station parking area is beautiful, quaint and picturesque.
I love the several wooden bridges connecting neighbors to the park and how the park meanders down through farmland, woods, and past the water. It's not very large all the way around (I think something like 1.4 miles or so) but it spans a lot of ground and is very relaxing and beautiful.
Folks are friendly and there are a few areas where you can put a kayak in or fish if you choose. It's rarely overly crowded and is super close to the heart of downtown Smithfield so you can head over for some antiquing or eating at the Smithfield Cafe (my fav) or the new...
