Let me start with the positive. The course is nice, a group of friends and I go on a yearly trip to Myrtle to do nothing but play golf and added River Hills to our list for this year. The course itself was in good shape and very well kept, the price point is perfect would even say they could go up a little and still be a good value
Onto my issues. First we booked online when we booked it showed our tee times as 802 am and 808. However when arrived to the course at 740 we were told that we were suppose to be on the tee box as we arrived. Everyone then hurried into the pro shop to pay to try and get out on time, the starters moved times around so that the groups behind us would fill slots and we began our round at a later time. Perfectly fine and understandable. While playing we see the marshal driving up the cart path on a par 3 that there was not much room for someone to get through, so we pulled our cart about half-way off the path by the tee box so it was clear to get around. The marshal then stops while we are on the tee box to ask us to keep all 4 wheels on the cart path while playing par 3's., The only reason that happened was to make it was safer for him to drive by while we were teeing off. Then while making the turn we go inside and purchase some beverages. While purchasing beverages I spoke to the gentleman at the front desk to figure out the error with the tee time we both came to the agreement that there was simply something that went wrong on the software we can both move on. I then went outside to get my cup and refill on ice. When I brought my cup to the employee behind the bar they asked to smell my cup because they "had to report if they smelled anything" Have never in my life been asked to have someone smell my cup. We then make the turn, as we make the turn the same marshal from earlier pulls up to our group and says there are groups behind us coming that we need to play faster. Mind you we have a group of 3 in front of our own group of 4, playing a scramble format we are playing a pretty quick pace. We tee off on 1 because we went off the back 9. As soon as we finish the first hole we are waiting behind not one but 2 groups in front of us to finish the hole. I began a timer since were being told we were the reason groups behind us were having to wait. We waited a total on 32 minutes over the next 3 holes. After that I stopped timing because it felt pointless.
I understand we were late per the time you all had, and per the time we had we were ready to load up and leave we had a long day of golf ahead of us and didn't need to get on the range, and then to be accused of sneaking liquor onto the course as we just purchase liquor is crazy.
My review ends by saying if you're a middle aged person looking for a course that you can go to relax and play a fun round of golf. This is not the place you would want to play. It is pretty obvious they want an older cliental and not a younger group who is there for the same thing the...
Read morePositives - The starter was very friendly.
Negatives - The club showed shaky structure at the start, having trouble managing the tee boxes and not getting us on the course until a half hour after our scheduled tee time. The course itself was in disrepair. The course in general looked like it was conditioned with a rototiller; and the nicer parts of the course were covered in poop (yes, poop). We followed groundskeepers through the course as they spread a dark brown fertilizer on the course; leaving us feeling like we were golfing on a farm and not a golf course. If that wasn't enough to make one feel terrible about spending over $50 to golf in these conditions; the course has an angry old cave troll called the ranger who patrols the grounds, grumbling at all of the paying customers so he feels like his existence is justified. His dislikes include happiness, fun, smiles, proper golf etiquette and logic. He must get commission for each golfer he makes uncomfortable or unhappy. I watched as he trudged along on his golf cart, getting in the way, and grumbling at the golfers that paid good money to golf at the trash heap of a golf course he calls home..
The bottom line is this: This is by far and away one of the worst courses I've ever set foot on. The course is in beyond terrible shape, but the staff would make you think it's a PGA Tour course. $50 is way too much to golf at this place. I play in my hometown on nicer courses for half of that price. The ranger is rude and really has no people skills. I question their decision to put him around people.
I know this is a lot of writing, but I hope it saves people from playing at this course. Spend your...
Read moreMy brother and i played Arcadian Shores on April 14,2016. It has been 20 years since playing there and I remember it having a classic layout and being a good test of golf. However, I was a little concerned about the condition of the course after reading the reviews that had previously been posted. Upon arriving at the course, we were greeted by very friendly cart people and professional staff. Even though Arcadian Shores has a temporary clubhouse, we were delighted with the friendly staff, smiles, and customer service.
We were promptly loaded into our carts and advanced to the practice tee. The driving range is nice, spacious and in good condition. We visited the putting green. We were stunned! Without a doubt, we found the nicest putting green with an immaculate, bent grass surface. We later were greeted by a very nice, informative starter. He provided a thorough but brief tutorial about the course.
Even though the course was very busy, the pace of play was good. We completed our round in 4 hours and 20 minutes( we were paired with another twosome). We were allowed to drive the carts on the fairway and that helped with the pace of play. The fairways were in very good shape and there was only one little area that was roped off because of wet conditions. Again, the greens were incredible!
All in all, the experience was great. The condition of the course is unbelievably good. PURE putting surfaces. It is without a doubt, a great value and would encourage you to play it! You will want to...
