At some point, this might have been a good place for little kids to explore nature. Today, it looks abandoned and forgotten. My kids were very disappointed. There is overgrown vegetation, dried out flower pots, dead plants in garden beds, and weeds everywhere. The sandpit is full of leaves and pine needles. The only playground equipment is a small slide good only for toddlers. The “alphabet garden” is but a short fence and a catalogue (laminated paper in a binder) with a local plant for each letter. Read moreThis is a hidden jem in Columbia. When my kids were little we would come spend time here. The little areas are almost magical. There is lots of shade so you can enjoy it in the summer as well. In fact, there were so many butterflies when we visited in the summer! The only downside is that the bathroom is a porta-potty, but it's a deluxe model! Now we use it for emergencies when we run or walk at the park and it's usually clean. Read moreThe Children's Garden has finally opened in the new location. It is beside the farmers market, and the parking is just off Clemson road. It is a perfect spot to take the kids to burn off a little energy. There are many themed gardens and places for the kids to safely run and play. Take a snack or lunch and have a picnic on a blanket or at the tables under the shade. The Friends of the children garden have done a great job re establishing this place for the community.
