Bahia Mar & Solare Tower — Attraction in South Padre Island

Every place has its ups and downs, so I'll start with bad stuff first: The staff is either nonexistent or not very helpful. We began our check-in process and it started to become clear they were a little confused about which room we were in, for some reason. We were told to park momentarily while we waited a good 20 minutes for someone to approach for more details. We got the keys. The keys given to us were for the wrong room, which warranted another trip downstairs. Very few transportation options available for luggage. We were given a sad, small little shopping cart to start loading up in while we waited. There weren't that many cars in front unloading so I'm not sure how many they have. Water. We were without for HOURS on our last day at the condo. We called the front and they told us it was an island-wide problem, while the rinse stations were still working no problem by the beach. We called multiple times for an update and never got a straight answer. It's not fun to sit around covered in sand because the rinsing stations didn't do their jobs well (the water blows away with the wind so it wasn't much of a rinse). Not being able to boil water or take a shower to go out to eat on the last day really put a damper on the end of the vacation. Beds. They aren't comfortable. At all. Not enough chairs out on the balcony to accommodate everyone staying at the condo.

The good stuff: They promised us a view of the ocean and we definitely went disappointed! The balcony was long and wide and was perfect for just sitting and talking. You can see the firework shows from the balcony, which was exciting. Dogs. They allow them. It's difficult to find any condo that will allow our German Shepherd to tag along with us. Walking distance to the beach was wonderful. Less than a five minute walk and you're there. They seem to supervise the beach front that's right in front of the condos so it didn't get overcrowded while we were there. We were able to setup our canopy each day without having to wall 20 minutes down the shore. The lack of room service was nice during our stay. We didn't get interrupted by knocking and we were given privacy. The kitchen was a good size and was filled with everything needed to cook meals and eat without the need to bring plates, cooking utensils, etc The vending machine downstairs supplies drinks like Monster, which was a great source of caffeine. Cable. My generation exists on internet so cable doesn't happen at home. It was nice just sitting back and hearing the current commercials for once.

Overall, the condo was a nice experience and had more good than bad stuff to report. Would definitely look at staying here again...

We recently stayed in Bahia Mar 180 and what a disappointment this was. We have been visiting the Island for 20+yrs. every summer with multiple families and have stayed in many different condos. This was by far the worst experience we have ever had. We had 4 families for a total of 8 adults and 2 children. We arrived from the airport on a shuttle bus that dropped us of at 4 check-in time. The condo was not clean the cleaning crew had just started to clean even though the guest before us had left at 11am, and we had no where to wait so the cleaning crew allowed us to wait in the condo. It took them an hour to clean.The condo was absolutely filthy from the previous guest. And because they cleaned it so quickly they didn't do a great job. The things that were wrong with the condo was the carpets were extremely dirty and need to be replaced the tile floors and bathrooms need to be fixed and updated. The condo looks nothing like the pictures. The kitchen was sparsely furnished. There was not enough cookware to cook for 10 people. Not enough dishes or utensils to eat with. There was 3 coffee cups for 8 adults, 4 glasses, 3 spoons. Linens were sparse we had 9 towels and 3 wash rags. Not a single lamp was plugged in and we had to move furniture to plugg them in. TV in bedroom was not hooked up and never worked. All the shelves in refrigerator door were broken and unusable, air conditioner in small bedroom downstairs never kept room cool not enough air flow. This was not our first time to stay at Bahia Mar but our first time in this condo. It was way below expectations of others we have stayed in.The grounds are gorgeous there but this condo was definitely not worth the money we paid to stay there. We have stayed in far better at about half the price. The people that own this condo should be ashamed to charge so much and not do any upkeep or repairs. We will not be recommending this condo to anyone and not sure if we will recommend any condos here. We will definitely not be taking any chances on other condos here. Not sure if owners are at fault or rental agency but I know if I owned a condo I would be checking it out and be on top of the upkeep. Don't waste your money on this condo. You will be...

This review is for condo number 651 that is hosted by Laurdes at Bahia Mar. I know she has more than one... so BEWARE. We arrived at condo #651 the place smelled like pee very badly! The entry to the room was gross and dark the stairs look like they had termite damage. The pool was supposed to be a few steps away according to her room description online; it’s not. I instantly tried calling my host and no answer. I messaged her to tell her that the room was not satisfactory and I wanted my money back. Let’s just say she argued and told me to unplug the air fresheners because that’s what I was smelling not pee! So after her telling me she would not refund my money we thought our vacay was ruined and we were stuck there! So like always my husband started checking the beds and he finds bed bug traps with bed bugs in them!!!!!! So Airbnb did refund my money because of the pictures I took of the bed bug traps. All I can say is thank God we never bring our stuff into a room before checking it out! Laurdes was not helpful at all and even posted a review that I was a bad guest! That is absolutely comical! That was my first and last time to book Airbnb because of their refund policy. If I could insert photos to prove what I’m telling you I would! Like I said the photos of the traps with bugs in them is the only reason I got my money back. Hope this review saves someone from their vacation...
