I called today because I was given two green tickets at Love11 that read,
"bloc Yard bouldering gym....Thank You! Bring a friend into climb for free ON US! ....2 - for - 1 Day Pass."
Im curious if others had recived these and also percieved them as two people get to climb for free "on them" (bloc yard) or that its a BoGo buy one entry get the other free (what i was told by the manager when i called). *Tried to attach my photo but it takes me to the directions Hmmm odd.
Id like to add that this is very misleading. One word can change everything. I also dont like the feeling of being swindled by people. Say what you mean.
Started off; I asked him if its 2 people free and if they were still honoring them. He said yes and i happened to clarify and then he said no i THINK its you buy a pass and then the other is free. I said well thats not what the tickets say and i read them off to him. He insisted that he wasnt sure but pretty sure. I said can i please talk to a manger or someone who knows and can actually answer my question, because thats not right these say free on them. He said i am a manager.
I told him that this is upsetting and misleading and makes them look untrusting. Straightforwardness is what im about. I dont think you should promote things as a manger if youre not with the plan and dont even know what...
Read moreI would call this the perfect bouldering gym, if there ever could be one. I was in town for a family event so I stopped by two mornings on the weekend.
The first day I popped in the owner of the gym got me all set up. Adam is a cool dude and showed me a few of his particular favorites of the current set.
The second day I went in there was the dreaded little kids birthday party in full force. Luckily the blocyard has a pretty well featured kids section pretty well separated from the routes adults would climb. Of course the kids’ parents were more interested in talking amongst themselves or being on their phones but the gyms staff did a good job of policing children (not easy or fun to do).
The setting is really good here with moves you’d often find outdoors. One of my favorite routes was a campusy v3 that ended with a committing heel hook. The walls on the top out boulder are just high enough to add some thoughtfulness to topping out. Great Wall material for smearing too.
Loved this place, you must go if you have the time...
Read moreI'm greatful for a climbing gym like this in Spokane. And I still have my membership here but I have some thoughts: They need to work on cleanliness and staff management. My main concern is never knowing who is a staff member..there is no uniform or indication of who's working and there is rarely anyone behind the counter. The bathrooms are typically kinda gross and the gym itself is pretty dirty. I've been climbing for years now and have been to gyms all over the US, but bloc seems to cater to one type of climber: really strong, and really skilled. The easier routes are too easy and some of the harder routes are not even possible to attempt for most people. And I'll warn you now - everything at this gym is an overhang - with a pretty big cave section. Only about 5 routes that are...
