This was quite possibly the worst movie going experience I've ever had. I went to see Oppenheimer last night in IMAX, and barely made it through the experience with my sanity (and my back) still intact. Normally I don't nitpick every detail of an experience, but unfortunately I strongly believe that this theater is not worth holding back on.
Starting from the entrance to the theater in the center walkway of the parking lot several of the wheel stops were misaligned and not held in place with rebar as you would typically see.
Going into the theater I walked up to the ticket machine and had to press several times before the touch screen would recognise any input, after selecting to receive my tickets that I purchased online, it made me use the touch screen to enter my confirmation number, now there seemed to be both a physical keypad and a qr scanner, but neither of them did anything when I attempted to use them. So once again I was forced to deal with the finicky touch screen to get my tickets.
After finally obtaining the tickets we walked through the second set of doors and through the area where someone would normally tear your ticket, but no one was there to do so. I wonder how much money this theater loses by not consistently having a staff member there?
As we walked up to the concession counter I noticed that the floor was inconsistently sticky, every few steps it felt like I was stepping on some dried spill that was never properly cleaned. I found this to be the case for pretty much the entire theater as I walked around.
After grabbing a couple cups and snacks we walked over to the drink dispensers. These were oddly positioned very far away from the concession counter and had rubber mats placed in front of them. Now I understand that these things are prone to getting messy, but we were there at 10PM on a Wednesday and there was hardly another soul in the theater. There is no excuse for how dirty these things were. Every machine had both dried and spilled pop in the dispenser and the floor mats were even stickier that the floor itself, I could actually hear my shoes as I lifted them from the mats.
One thing that I found was odd as we were headed to the theater was the lack of any actual movie posters or advertisements anywhere in the building. The only posters that I saw were the ones that advertise the AMC Subscription plan.
As we walked into theater 14 I noticed the carpet was turning black from all of the foot traffic it had received over the years, and yes, this carpet was also sticky.
At this point all of these things were adding up in the back of my mind, but it didn't matter much to me since I was looking forward to the movie. That was until I turned the corner and noticed much to my (and my back's) dismay that this theater's seats were the unmoving, non reclining, creaking, tightly packed, red clothed knightmare that I would spend the next 3 hours suffering in.
Accepting my fate I walked up to my seat and found that it only got worse. Gum... There was hardened gum on and under practically every armrest in the row. How in the hell is this acceptable in a post COVID world!? The only thing that stopped me from leaving the theater at that moment was the fact that there were no other showings that night and the friend that I was seeing it with would be leaving out of town for a month, this was literally our last chance to see this movie together.
I sat down, and found that the cushioning in my seat was basically gone. What made things worse was the actual shape of the back of the chair, the top half was pushed forward while the bottom was pulled back, meaning that I would have to lean forward in the seat for the entire movie. This was my hell for the next 3 hours.
After sitting through the most uncomfortable movie going experience of my life I left the theater holding my back in pain.
I will not be coming back to this theater again, and in this age where most movies easily pass the 2 and a half hour mark, I recommend that others...
Read moreI and a few friends recently visited this facility to watch Avengers: Endgame. We decided to watch at the 12:30 am showing because we thought it would be a unique experience not often provided with other movies. In making this decision we anticipated having the same overall positive experience of visiting AMC as if we had attended at any other time given we were paying the same rate for our tickets. This however was not at all the case.
2 of us in our group arrived a bit late and found the doors to the building had been locked. A team member was standing inside about 150 feet from the door we were at but did not make an effort to come to the door - so instead a friend of ours who was already in the theatre had to let us in. After getting inside, we went in to the theatre to find our seats and get settled prior to getting concessions.
After a few minutes, but prior to the opening title coming on screen, I exit the theatre for the concession area, and was told that concessions were closed and that I wouldn't be able to purchase any sort of snacks or refreshments for the 3 hour movie that I had come to see. To me, like many others, when visiting a movie theatre it is the refreshments that make the experience - and so after my poor customer service experience and realization that this AMC location does not care about the experience of it's movie goers I return to the theater frazzled and distraught that I should not have purchased tickets for this showing nor this particular theatre.
Later, as the movie ends and I, my friends, and the other movie goers exit the theatre we find an almost fully darkened lobby, as well as the entrance/exit and parking lot with no lighting. This to me seemed like a major safety and security hazard as well as liability.
I submitted this exact complaint through the online platform and also received no reply from the company - further demonstrating the lack of commitment to...
Read moreBeen going to AMC for almost 15 years, and been going every week 1-2 a week, since a-list came out in 2018, so I have plenty of experience with the different AMCs in the area and not a person that only goes couple times a year if that. This is personally my favorite of the AMC locations in the area, yes it has older non-recliner seats in most of it auditoriums (Dolby Cinema has recliners) but I actually kind of prefer that over recliner seating, if you want recliners go to Gratiot or John R locations. The staff at Forum are great and friendly, and tickets are also cheaper if you don't have a-list probably because of the older seating. You can get standard format ticket even for evening for like $8, where the other locations with recliners going to run you around $13. This location has bigger screen and better sound than the other locations in my opinion. The main complaint I see is that it "outdated" and doesn't have recliners and concession are too high, but concession at any theater are going to be high, sure MJR or Emagine might be little bit cheaper but nothing ground breaking, it should also be well know that theaters play previews before the start of the movie and the listed showtimes isn't when they movie actually starts, AMC website is clearly displays that "Movies start 25-30 minutes after showtime." In todays time with reserved seating there nothing stopping a person from showing up later to avoid having to watch the previews. If you don't like the older style, no recliner seating then this location probably not for you, but if you can get past that, this is a great...
