Strongsville Branch — Attraction in Strongsville

I love libraries. If I could, I'd spend all day in them. This one is no exception. It's a good size with quality selection and constantly updated tables showcasing new and popular books, movies, and TV shows. Staff is the main reason for the 4 stars instead of 5. More often than not, the staff are unapproachable, intimidating, and condescending when asked questions that require more than them pointing out where the bathroom is.

I'm a frequent user of requesting books. I get at least 2-3 a week and know exactly where to go to pick them up once I check my account online and see that they are in. One book happened to have not come in, despite the website telling me it should be on the shelf. I triple-checked the shelf physically, double checking my e-mail saying that the book was in (doing this in-between looking at the shelf). After 10 minutes of looking, I finally approached the desk for help with it and was immediately gruffly asked if the material had even come in yet. I said yes, I just double checked the e-mail. She asked me if I knew where to look for materials that had been requested. Another yes on my part, I frequently pick-up orders. With an air of resignation and frustration for having to do more for this order, the library stood up, walked over to the area reserved for books being held, glanced around for a second, and sat back down to inform me about what I already knew: the book the website said was in, was in fact not there. Ten minutes later we had it re-ordered.

I avoid talking to the staff now at all costs. Sorry to be a bother, but...

I’ve lived in Strongsville my whole life and I’ve used this library a lot in that time. I was even fortunate enough to have used the old library as well.

I love the building especially now with the new renovations and private study rooms. I have never had problems with the staff as some reviews suggest. I have seen staff go above and beyond to help elderly who need help with computers and much more in my time at the library.

The staff are unapproachable,intimidating, and condescending when asked questions/help. When you are working at front desk or customer service,you should know courtesy. Simple good morning, is really important. I said “hi,good afternoon” and her response seems like she doesn’t want to help or anything. Yes!
