My wife and I are big fans of a “local boy” band, Thy Dirty Deuce. The manager of Bay Vinyl popped into the Deuce’s FB page and said they had the new album in the store.
We actually happened to be in sister Bay Wisconsin when he posted that, but it was not in the cards for us to take a right turn at Sturgeon Bay on the way back home.
I sent a quick message to the record store and asked if there was any way they could maybe take a quick phone order. A couple phone calls later, I received the new dirty deuce and Steven Cooper CDs via US post.
Wife and I both like it enough that I’m positive we were going to fight over it, so I just stopped in today to pick up another copy as well as a few other local band CDs. Paul is running the kind of shop that we used to see in the Chicago suburbs. I’m sure there are a few in the more authentic Chicago neighborhoods, but they have all but disappeared out of the suburbs. I don’t know when the last time I saw a copy of the Clash’s London Calling next to Dolly Parton, both on vinyl, in excellent condition at that!
The place has a solid and tight collection of great jazz, excellent blues, and that very definite plugged-in feel any good record shop has, that if you’re looking for something in whatever genre of music you like, you’re going to find it here or they will find it for you.
I don’t think 265 miles is too long a drive for a good burger, a good band or a good brick and mortar store. Whenever I’m up in the area, which is currently fairly frequently, I suspect I’m gonna pop in and see what else we can find.
Paul, thank you so much. I genuinely appreciate you stepping out a little bit for me. You have a...
Read moreBay Vinyl Records is marvelous record store you don’t want to miss. If you love rock & pop from decades past, there’s plenty to choose from. You can find jazz & other genres here too. And if you want the new stuff & reissues, BVR has a great selection of that as well. The stock is clearly well tended to & fairly priced, so you can buy your new-to-you records (or cassette tapes even) with confidence. I love the gems that I’ve found here! The owners & staff love talking music just as much as you do. I always look forward to coming to this shop whenever I’m in the area. If you love collecting records, you must check...
Read moreDoor County boasts a surprising number of record shops despite being a mostly rural region. Even better, each shop has its own vibe and speciality genres. Bay Vinyl is perfect when I want quality jazz, classic rock, and blues. Good selection of current releases but the bins are where it's at.
Bay Vinyl isn't huge but it still rewards the time taken to flick through the bins. They are thankfully well organized so it's also great when you have something specific you're looking for. They're also happy to order records they don't currently have in stock.
