Nails by Mary — Attraction in Sugar Hill

After reading many of the reviews and photos she has here on google, I decided to book an appointment with Mary. She was nice in the beginning but her attitude quickly turned when the design skills she appears to have were not present at my appointment today. I showed her a picture of the design that I wanted and she said she could do it. She also mentioned that she would give me a 10% discount which I was pleased about. We had a nice chat and I was enjoying my time there. As she continued working, I noticed some things that were not customary of my usual nail technicians, but gave her the benefit of the doubt and hoped that it was just a different process but she could still achieve what I wanted. Her application of the acrylic paste was not what I was used to and she made the nails so thick that she could not file them down flat. She was pretty rough and cut me many times with the electric file, and after repeatedly bringing this to her attention, she mentioned that I was sensitive but did not alter her method for filing. I noticed that she was huffing a few times after filing which made me uncomfortable and I was feeling like my service was actually a burden to her. After being there for nearly 3 hours, I was very displeased with the end result, as it was nothing like the photo that I showed her. I have a few cuts (one with a little bit of blood on it), the diamonds in the design I requested are not centered, and the nails are extremely thick and curved. I began to question if the photos she has on google are her actual work. When voicing my disappointment, she began to get indignant with me and I felt like I was being a little bit gaslighted. She kept saying that I was the one who wanted a design, but I don’t understand how receiving an improper result is my fault. I feel she acted in this way because she knew that the result was not one that reflected a professional’s work. She told me that I was the reason for her being there for 3 hours, and she could have seen 2 more customers instead of wasting the whole time on me. I did not understand her point because she was the one who took that long and that was not any result of me coming to use her services. If she had additional appointments, they would have been waiting at the door, and there were no customers waiting to be serviced. Plus, I have been to many salons where they did not spend that long on a design. After asking for a higher discount because I was not happy with the result, she told me 'absolutely not' and that she was too tired and needed to go home. I think the way she was speaking to me was not reflective of a business owner who actually cares about the satisfaction and happiness of their customers. It made me re-evaluate and not believe that her initial friendly attitude was genuine. I feel like if someone is not happy with something, as a business owner, you should make some attempts to try to rectify the situation. She did not do this at all, and I was extremely disappointed with her disrespectful attitude towards me. It’s so unfortunate, because I wanted to try something different than the traditional nail salons which is why I decided to give her business a try. By appointment only is great because she can focus on the details without rushing. The location is beautiful, clean, open, and calm. I have 4 children who I cook and clean for, and full time job....with my busy lifestyle the manicure does not chip, or break and it stays shiny and fresh. Mary introduced me to a new culture of European style manicures. Having done Asian stye manicure my whole life I absolutely love the Russian style Manicure. I met Mary about a month ago. My daughter introduced me after I raved about her manicures. I live in Virginia but if I know I’m coming to Georgia I make an appointment with Mary! Her shop is lovely. Very clean. Great location. Mary does excellent work. You can bring her a picture and she can definitely match it but, it’s even better if you just give her an idea of what colors you want and let her create. She will not disappoint! This time I brought my younger daughter with me for a manicure as well. We are all extremely happy with our nails. Not to mention our waxing. She gets the golden buzzer...
