This park has everything. there is a range that you can practice shooting there is a airfield that you can take hobby airplanes that are remote control to fly there are bike trails there is a dog park there are many different jungle gyms for little kids to play on with their friends and parents there are many different spots to park at and enjoy the birds and ducks and squirrels there are pavilions you can reserve and rent for birthday parties they have an office nearby where you can talk to them about any concern or questions you might have there are many trees out here this is a beautiful Park I highly recommend there are bathrooms as well so you don't have to leave home early in the event that you're going to your kids best friends birthday party so there are also Fields where you can play many different sports like soccer. many different people come over here as well as students with their classes to do PE and practice their different sports that they have in preparation for competitions especially track and field they have a bike rental area I don't know how that works but I'm sure that others dothere is a gym that is an outdoor thing that is funded by I think it's Jackson memorial I could be wrong on the actual hospital that funds the gym equipment that's outdoors that you can use there are picnic tables so you can have a picnic with your family friends and co-workers one of my favorite things to do is to buy two or three bags of bird seed for the squirrels and birds to eat and a bag of Wonder bread which the ducks love to eat I highly recommend bringing fruit or if you have fruit that's going to expire that maybe you don't want anymore that has an expired quite yet the ducks love to eat that especially the ducks that come in from up North when it's winter and they're seeking refuge in somewhere warm there is also a trailer park where people who have campers can rent for 6 months at a time out of the year in which they only need one month in between to move their camper around so that people aren't actually living within the park except you know part-time maybe but that's their rules I highly recommend this place there is a $3 fee on Saturday and Sunday for each vehicle during the week it's free The pavilions some of them not all of them have charging ports where you can plug in your cell phone in the event you are having a birthday party I need to charge your phone to keep in touch with your family. there are boat ramps where you can drop off a Sea-Doo or canoe small boat and go fishing and you can bring over your remote control boats to play with a lot of people like to come over here with their drones and practice with their new fun toys if you don't choose to go to the dog park area where your dog can run free you can bring your puppies over as long as they are on a 6-foot leash. this park is hands down one of the best parks that sunrise Florida in fort Lauderdale has it's also not too far from the sunrise flea market known as the swap shop so come visit I hope you enjoy it as...
Read moreThis massive 665 acre park was opened in 1973 and named after Broward property appraiser C Robert Markham. There is a $1.50 weekend and holiday charge to enter but other than that it is free.
This park may have the most things to do out of any of the county parks. There are 8 picnic pavilions of various sizes. On any weekend you will see them being utilized for corporate events, parties, or just by families enjoying a meal. Groups of over 250 people must get prior approval from the park to gather. Prices for rentals can be found on the parks reservation page.
The campground has 88 electricity and water hook ups for campers. It is best to make reservations because they get very busy in season.
The airfield has 50 acres and a newly renovated 75 foot runway. Different groups meet here and it's always fun to watch the flying planes that people put so much love and time into.
Memorial Fitness Zone is one of those outdoor exercise machine spots I love so much. you can scan the QR code to read how to use each machine.
The Fox observatory hosts an event every Saturday night which allows the public to take a look through their telescope.
The boat launch allows you to put your personal watercraft into the 26 acre lake.
The shooting range is in the back of the park. It allows for skeet and trap shooting. The rifle and pistol range has 66 shooting stations.
There are 14 miles of mountain biking trails. Bring your own helmet.
The Barkham Park dog park allows your pooch to get out and enjoy the fun too as long as you register your furry friend. This facility has an additional fee.
If all that wasn't enough there are playgrounds, racquetball and tennis courts, and an 18 hole disc golf course too! Many species of wildlife make their home here including birds, raccoons, opossums, snakes, and possibly alligators. This scenic county park offers so many things to do. Athletic facilities include a tennis/racquetball center, a biking/jogging path, and volleyball areas. A series of interlocking lakes offers opportunities for fishing and the use of personal watercraft.
Markham Park's popular outdoor target range is adjacent to a 1,600-square-foot clubhouse with snack bars and a meeting room. Two 120+ capacity and three 60+ capacity picnic shelters - all with grills, tables and water, and two with electricity - are available for rental, and other picnic tables and grills are scattered throughout the park. The park's large campground includes 86 sites for RV and tent camping.
Markham Park is also the site of an approximately three-acre dog park. The canine playground - which celebrated its grand opening in March 2005 - is divided into separate fenced sections for large and small dogs. It features smooth, durable Bermuda grass, as well as eight-foot-wide asphalt paths where owners can walk or jog with their pets.
