Can’t speak on purchasing anything from here, but if you’re thinking about selling any books, I’d advise you look anywhere but here. I called beforehand and specifically asked what kind of books are they interested in and how many books I am allowed to bring. Person over the phone says any genre is acceptable and I can bring as many books as I like. I arrive with three bins full of books, including hardcover books such as, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Roots, and others. Before even looking through all the books, the guy at the counter says, “You’re gonna get a lot of these back”. Something should’ve told me then to take everything back to the car and go home. But the eternal optimist in me let them sort through everything while they told me it would be about an hour’s time to make me an offer and that I’d receive a text message when they were finished. An hour turned into nearly two, never received the text message, so I proceeded to the desk where they told me they had been finished with my buy for a while, told me that they didn’t want a majority of the books I had brought, and then offered me $9.50 for what they did take. To be honest, this isn’t about the money, although $9.50 is laughable for the books they did take, and more than likely they’ll end up selling them for $10.00+ per book. The real issue I have however was the complete dismissal by the employee at the counter before he even looked through everything. It was as if he had his mind made up about what I was going to be offered before he took the time to evaluate what I had brought in. I expected him to give me a fair shake. You know, what’s in his job description. Moreover, the buying process is nothing more than a complete joke designed to screw people over and waste their time, while they attempt to make a profit in the long run. My advice to those considering doing business with these people is to think of this as a way for them to take your books and give you pennies, while they make a nice buck off it down the road. If you’re looking for cash for your books you’re better off selling them yourself or anywhere else. Don’t get played by these folks. Definitely wouldn’t recommend this store to anyone for anything, shady...
Read moreThe employees are always very nice and very helpful. The store is well organized and the sales are good. I have gone here many times over the past few years.
Sadly today I left mildly upset over a refund situation. I purchased 12 comics, 8 of which were for a family member. I had about $13 of store credit that I used as well as $23 on my credit card (total $36). I got out to my car and my family member texted me saying he didn't want the 8 comics I bought for him. So I walked back in to get a refund on the 8 comics.
The refund was basically $23 so I expected to have that put back on to my card. Instead I was first refunded $13 store credit that I used and the remaining difference was refunded to my card. So I was still paying $10 for my 4 comics I kept and I got $13 in store credit and $10 refund on card.
The explanation was that since I payed with a split payment I get a split refund. I know it's not anything personal from the employees but such things are not spelled out on the back of the receipt. So although I could have had my 4 comics I kept fully paid for with my store credit, I got that store credit fully refunded and my credit card paid for it for the 4 comics.
This particularly bugs me since I live an hour away and despite my desire to not give the company any more business I have to come back some time in the future to use this store credit.
I could have left with my comics paid for with my store credit. Instead I left with money on my card and all of my store credit in tact. Yes, me turning around and asking for a refund on comics 5 mins after I purchased is maybe a little bit of an annoyance but there is a 14 day return policy.
The refund system of making sure that I get a total refund of the store credit and only a partial refund for my credit card upsets me. No customer would choose to pay $10 when he has $13 of store credit. Sorry 2nd and Charles, that's...
Read moreA couple few months back I took a whole lot of DVDs in there to sell to them because that's where everybody has been telling me to take used DVDs & used books because they pay better than anybody else. I had two of their bins overflowing with DVDs I took up to the counter, I checked them all each at home to make sure they were in good condition & they were in their original cases & the guy behind the counter checked just a few right in front of me & told me I definitely would be made an offer so he took all my info, real nice guy. When I got the text later to come back & the text said an offer has been made, when I got there it was a different guy behind that counter & the other guy was gone. This different guy says they're all coming back to me with no offer or they will keep them & recycle them for free. I told him they guy that was there when I dropped them off looked through just a few of them & said I definitely would be made an offer & the text I received said an offer has been made, he said well there is not an offer now do you want them back or do want us to keep them & recycle them.I asked why is there not an offer when I was told there definitely would be & he said the condition of them or they have to many copies of these same movies already. I told friends & others about this & these friends & others have told me that's a load of B.S. that the same thing happened to them & they will never go there again. I've even met one person who use to work there & they told me they will tell people that like they did me & then they still resell my DVDs anyway. So I went back & sure enough there were some of my DVDs for sale. Some there were multiple copies of but I know mine & I could tell which ones were mine. I advise anybody & everybody NOT to go to 2nd & Charles for anything whatsoever. 2nd & Charles is a big scam & con artist of a...
