I have always had a great experience shopping at this location in the past years. Until last night, I needed to purchase a hunting rifle for my upcoming season. After my background check was cleared and completed, I went to complete my transaction. My boyfriend was paying for it as a gift. But little did I know its against the rules for someone else to buy you a firearm. I understood and left to go get my personal cash. When I returned at 8 o'clock at night. The manager Matt was cussing and yelling because no-one was answering the phone with children and many other customers around. After making me wait for 10 minutes, he told me that ATF personally called and told him he couldn't complete the sale. His body language and lack of eye contact proved he was lying and abusing his power. He told me I could come back another day and complete my purchase. How can you have someone so hostile working with firearms but deny me of my clearly LEGAL sale??
I called in at 9am the very next morning and asked if I would need another back ground check or what the process would be. The woman who answered named Holly immediately said I would never be eligible to purchase a fire arm again from sportsman's because someone was trying to pay for my purchase as a gift. I asked to speak to a manager to discuss this matter and report the hostile behavior of his employees. He was very kind and understood my frustrations, however he gave me no options and told me I was out of luck because of this situation.
I was treated like a criminal and this establishment infringed on my rights to purchase a fire arm because they did not want to give me any options. We were willing to cooperate or provide an additional background check for my boyfriend to prove we both are eligible to purchase firearms and it wasn't a "Straw Sale" to avoid this situation. Instead I am told I can NEVER buy a firearm at any of their locations ever again. I understand the rules and the urgency to follow policies. However, this reaction to my ignorance for firearms transactions was VERY EXTREME. I will no longer be spending any money at this establishment after the treatment I've received from the...
Read moreBefore I start I want to say that everybody was really polite that worked at this establishment. My issue is that this was the longest process I've ever had to go through in order to pick up my self defense item that I purchased online. So the beginning of the process was typical, do a background check and then you have to wait a couple of days for the background check to come back.So when my background check came back clear, I was called and told that I could come pick up my purchase. So I came in, was greeted and was referred to a gentleman named Joe who handled this part of the pick up. So I was told by Joe that I needed to verify my background check which I already thought I did. And then the process took over 30 minutes just to get somebody to verify the paperwork, initial, and try to up sell me repeatedly, etc. Then after waiting a long time just to be able to get my purchase, Joe escorted me to the cashiers window and there I was told that owed over $200 for something that I already purchased online. So at this point they had to get someone else to come verify that I purchased the item even though I have my confirmation email. Then they had to do all this stuff on the cash register just for me to be able to walk out with the purchase. The process was sloppy and time consuming. I've never had this many issues purchasing before. On top of everything the lady behind the counter lied to me about the person to person transfer law in Colorado. I asked about possibly buying a self defense item for a friend and if I could transfer it over to that friend after I purchased it and she told me no it is illegal to do so which is a flat out lie. After doing research I know for sure she's a liar. Needless to say I'm never getting anything from this...
Read moreI've been a loyal Sportsman's customer for over seven years, but after my experience yesterday, I will no longer be shopping there. I was at the Thornton Cabela's earlier in the day, but could not purchase the Montana Decoy Cow Elk I because their computer systems were down. So I decided to stop at the Thornton Sportsman's Warehouse thinking they might price match, and I could pick up a few other things. I grabbed the item off the shelf and took it to the gun counter where Carl said they could price match depending on the price. I told him Cabela's had the item on sale for $59.99 this weekend, 9/18-9/20. He said he would call the Thornton Cabela's. He did and couldn't reach them because their systems were down. Just like I told him. He then claimed to have called the corporate office and said they didn't have the item in their system. Now, if he couldn't match the price, I would have just said okay and not purchased there, but his attitude was as if I was lying to him, and that just pissed me off, especially since he did this in front of other customers. Making someone look like a liar in front of other people is not a good customer service tactic. He then said I should go to Cabela's and purchase it. So that's what I did on 9/19/15. I purchased it and some other items at the Thornton Cabela's. I took a picture and will post it on Yelp so others can see the price Cabela's had it listed for at $59.99. The Cabela's staff is much more customer friendly. I've shopped at Sportsman's for years, and their prices have always been good, but I will not stand for such poor customer service. I can purchase all the same items online or at Cabela's or Bass Pro and not have to deal with people like Carl. I hope Sportsman's can adjust their customer...
