I booked a Hotel Room at the Caption Thomson's Resort for a weekend. When I arrived at the Caption Thomson's Resort I liked what I saw just by first site. As I went into the Front Desk to check in with my family, the girl working at the front desk seemed to be very stressed due to all the check in's at once and with that stress came an attitude when I told her that we had 6 people she said the room was made for 4 people and I informed the girl at the front desk that I talked to someone on the phone and they said that it would be an extra $15 per person over 4 people. The girl at the front desk then went on to question us on how we got this info because I booked the room online so there for you could have not called to get this info, but the girl at the front desk obviously knew exactly what that policy was because she was able to put the extra fees into the computer with no problem at all.
When I got to my room It it was a beautiful River View room With a deck that we could sit on and just look out at The St Lawrence River. My 4 year old Nephew was in all of the Big Boats going right by our room window. As I got settled and got everything in place I wanted to play on my phone for a bit until I was ready to hit The Strip for a couple of hours. When I went to connect my phone to the WIFI I seemed to have trouble, so I called the front desk and they told me that they were aware of the prolem and the have reached out to their providers and we are waiting for a response. I was in this room for 2 nights and we did not get any WIFI until 9pm our last night there and even then it was hit or miss thing with the single.
Other then the problems I had at check in and with the WIFI. It was a great stay. When ever I went to get Ice from the Ice machine or just out on the grounds in general all the staff were very friendly always smiled and said hi if we happen to cross paths. Even everyone at the Front Desk were friendly after I checked in and the mad rush was over but I am not sure about the girl who checked us in because we never crossed paths again for the rest of my stay.
This Is a smoke free Resort which I can totally understand No smoking in the room or the pool area, but their rule is No Smoking anywhere on the property. Not on the deck or in the parking lot and if you are caught there is a fine of $250 by the resort.
Over all If I was to return to this area I would Consider Caption Thomson's Resort but I would look into other places first before I would book another stay at...
Read moreREAD THE WHOLE THING!!!! This place was (almost) great! They had comfortable beds a nice view (maybe too nice) and a pool! The pool was kinda dirty and too cold for me but still fun. The hotel was in walking distance to shops and restaurants which is great! But there’s a catch. When I went on this trip I was gonna obviously take videos and pictures since I don’t come often. The little balcony of our room was perfect for that! So on my last day there I woke up in a good mood. I went outside to enjoy the view and I noticed some cute ducks in the water. So, like anyone would, I pulled my new iPhone XR out of my pocket and started to record. I guess my phone was too close to the edge because it fell out of my hands and fell into the river! I started crying my eyes out! No way was my new phone just sitting there in the river. Funny part was, it was still on, it hadn’t turned off.( but it didn’t record unfortunately). I was freaking out! They’re had to be a solution but I was too overwhelmed to think of one so my mom did. She went to the office and informed the people what had happened. This friendly man, (I think it was the guy who owned the places son) offered to get it for me. So I waited, and like he said, he was under our balcony getting my phone. So he got it and handed it up to me and I thought it was done for. But nope! The audio was very messed up but with a bit of rice and some shaking it was better in no time. So that was my experience. Moral of the story, don’t record ducks too close to the edge or you’re phone will fall!...
Read moreI haven't even checked in yet and I'm enraged! I made reservations for three rooms yesterday. Today I discovered that my bank account had already been charged and now I'm overdrawn with hefty overdraft charges. I called the resort and was told that this was standard procedure and that I should have been told about it. Well, I honestly was NOT told about it, because if I had been, I wouldn't have gone through with it because my account wouldn't have had enough money to cover it until this Thursday, 4 days before we were to arrive.
The rooms are for my husband and myself and for two other people coming to visit us from California. I wouldn't have had enough to cover all three in advance unless I'd known beforehand and gotten the funds from my friends. I'm not rich!
I've never had this happen at a hotel before. Is it actually legal?
UPDATE: Today the hotel manager called and said we were not welcome. I could barely get a word in edgewise. He said I was told that my card would be billed immediately when I made the reservation. Sorry, but all the woman said was that I only had two days to cancel if I had to, otherwise I'd be charged if we didn't show up. The manager went on and on and on about how HIS hotel and others in the area are different from other hotels and that they have to protect themselves. Huh? He had my card number; if we hadn't shown up, he could have charged it then anyway.
I'm mystified by this whole episode. Not very hospitable,...
