The Greenburgh Nature Center is an absolute treasure that offers something wonderful for visitors of all ages. One of the highlights is their collection of native wildlife, including birds of prey, reptiles, and small mammals that serve as animal ambassadors. These animals, many of which are rescue animals that cannot be released back into the wild, provide incredible up-close learning opportunities.
This place is ideal for families looking to introduce children to nature. The grounds are safe, the facilities are clean, staff are very friendly, and there’s enough variety to keep kids engaged for hours. From the butterfly garden to the small pond, every corner offers something new to discover.
The 33-acre preserve provides a perfect escape into nature without having to venture far from the city. The nature trails are well-maintained and offer peaceful walks through diverse habitats, from woodlands to meadows. The trail system is perfect for families with young children, as the paths are relatively easy to follow. The admission fee is very reasonable, especially considering the quality of the experience. Highly recommended for nature lovers, families, educators, and anyone looking for a peaceful retreat in...
Read moreWe got to spend about one hour here before it started pouring for the rest of the day but we had a really nice time! We checked out the native plants, got chased by some chipmunks for about 5 minutes (honestly we had a blast with this), saw some birds, and the butterfly garden. We didn’t pay for the butterfly garden (I think it’s like $5 and it looked like they’d just give you a code to the lock) and I’m glad we didn’t. There really wasn’t much to it (even for $5!) and you can just see everything quickly from outside of it. Maybe we came at the wrong time of year and earlier it would have been more fun. I got to enjoy ‘interacting with’ this beautiful raven, and then we hung out in the visitor center for a while until we could run back to our car when the rain slowed. We saw on a pamphlet there that you can sign up to walk the Pygmy goats in the spring and we will definitely be back to do...
Read moreGreat for toddlers - a small indoor area staffed by enthusiastic HS volunteers who will pull out the various animals for petting (ferrets, guinea pigs, chinchillas, rats, and various reptiles). The outdoor playground is fun and there is also a small area in the back with a few farm animals. On our most recent visit on 04/21/24, the woman checking us in at the front desk was quite rude, which definitely put a damper on our visit. They also seem to have a new carry-in/carry out garbage policy, which makes a lot of sense if you are actually in the wilderness but less sense if you are located on Central Avenue in Scarsdale and regularly host large children's...
