Fine store for playing events, not for buying product.
I've been here a couple times and have had good conversations with the employees there and they were kind enough. Very typical trading card store in my experience.
Giving 2 stars because their prices are unreasonably high in my opinion. My friend and I went into the store looking for bulk commons and rares for Digimon, and they wanted 50 cents a card... Note, the cards we grabbed from the bulk box were worth 1 cent - 10 cents each on TCG Player. So instead of getting rid of bulk, they lost a sale b/c they wanted to markup commons and rares by 5x - 10x the price. Bulk commons and rares should be 10 cents max, in my opinion.
Their sleeves were $15 each, as opposed to $10 - $12 online which was disappointing.
This store took full advantage of Lorcana scalping, selling starter decks for $40, and booster boxes for $300 which shows, at least to me, that they don't care as much about building a community as they do maximizing profit. I think a lot of stores are missing out on building a customer base b/c they focus, too much I think, on short term profit. Even the employee in the store thought the prices were insane.
I will go back here for playing events b/c the store space is nice enough and it's close to where I live, but I doubt I'd buy anything in-store since it's so much more expensive than...
Read moreWent in here to check out some tabletop RPGs. I've been around playing these types of games since the 1980s. I know how the princes and the market for the work. The owner recognized immediately that I wasn't going to be stiffed by their unreasonable prices. One rpg set that never sold on any given platform the owner quoted as being $110. I beg to differ I told the confused owner. He had 7 sets that were along the shelf and all marked at $110. I knew he didn't know what he was talking about when he tried to find the 'correct' price on line which was $48.00. I told him that my daughter purchased the same system at a reputable rpg store for $40.00. I also noticed that l, like me, he was a veteran. When I referred this to his attention, he inquired of my job in the military. This so-called move to cnnect wasn't working for me. Once again, I told him what the worth of this set was and that I wasn't going to pay what he wanted. He kept on calling after me as I left, 'Thank you for your service. Thank you for your service...'. Complete nitwit. Overpriced as these other reviews state and the owner has been out in the...
Read moreI can't argue that the store itself is nice and has above average inventory in regards to the quantity and quality of their products. With that said, the store owner can be painfully rude at times as he allows his customers to wait 15, 20, 25 minutes or more to purchase/sell anything because he will be busy playing board games with his friends.
Moreover, I might make a side note that they generally offer about 20-25% of market value when selling or trading in MTG products which is way, way, way below anything I've ever seen any other store in NYC offer. I've visited the store several times and played the same waiting game nearly every visit. And with a generally unwelcoming atmosphere (unless you become a regular player who sits down at the store), it makes for an overall disappointing experience when visiting.
Nothing else against the store and hopefully the owner will fix this 'waiting' problem, given he considers it an issue. Wish I could've given...
