My family and I are regular customers of Red Plum ever since we arrived in Mamaroneck over 15 years ago. I just wanted to address a recent review I saw as I was also present that night and happen to have a service dog in my family (the family member and service dog were not present). From the start, I had doubts about this dog being a legitimate service animal as I had seen them in the restaurant before. The dog was not well behaved, barking unnecessarily and not focused on their handler at all. The staff made no complaints to them as the restaurant was not to busy and although I was annoyed by the barking myself I made no complaint. As for the night in question, the dog was still not properly trained. Again, the dog was not focused on it’s handler, and the wife was carrying the dog in her arms which makes me wonder how their “service animal” could properly do their job if they’re being coddled and pet by other customers. Second, I happened to overhear that the dog was an Emotional Support dog, which is not recognized as a service animal and not allowed in public spaces that do not allow pets. And third, I witnessed the couple allowing their dog to drink DIRECTLY FROM THE GLASSWARE on their table instead of requesting a separate container of water or providing their own bowl. After being confronted about the act by the owner, they began cursing and yelling which made me very concerned and fearful about a fight breaking out. Never before have I seen people act this way. As someone who often goes out with my family and service dog, I find people like this who lie in order to bring their pets around and disregard other people to be completely entitled and horribly rude. Keep your pets at home or order take out. Do not bring your untrained pets to public establishments and ruin the reputation of service animals who people need to survive.
Otherwise, dinner was fantastic as always and I enjoyed my night here. Always try the red plum roll and dragon roll if you get the chance...
Read moreThe food at Red Plum is good... i didnt give five stars because its just good to my liking not like amazing but its good. Good enough to continue going back. And i am a vegetarian, so this answer is based on only vegetarian meals that i have had. The mushroom soup is simple but good. Not sure if i ate meat i would say different. My husband loves this thing they make there and i enjoy to see how he loves that. So for others probably meat eaters/ seafood eaters it may be better. You can have unlimited green tea for free. If you are not from this area be careful making any wrong turns... easy ticket! On one occasion we ordered our food and the guy who took our order must of forgot to submit our order and we were just waiting and waiting.... he gave us free ice cream at the end to make up for that. And yes we did go back after that. If i had to choose between regular dining and Hibachi i would rather do regular dining... we have only trued Hibachi once. Its very private for a family to do hibachi. But i enjoy choosing more options for food than what the Hibachi offered... unless we misunderstood the menu. When we originally started going to Red Plum i don’t remember there being any desert... with time i became aware of it, or it was newly incorporated. I definitely have to say something about the restrooms.... its usually in order! There’s nothing worst than knowing yes! You are in a public bathroom. But Red Plum keeps up with keeping theirs in check. You can eat inside or outside though this latter one depends on the...
Read moreSo saddened that tonight im parting ways with Red Plum. I’ve been a costumer for about 6-7 years, spent thousands of dollars, on birthdays, anniversaries or even just picking up on the way home from work. Food was always absolutely amazing, service used to be great, lately just okay. However the embarrassment I’ve experienced tonight, I never experienced before. It was a bigger party at a hibachi table, again food great, service meh, alright, I had to flag down the waiter a few times for drinks, but whatever, it’s fine. The bill wasn’t split, it was paid by one person, who also left a tip that I learned was about 15%. The manager himself, came back to our table and asked us out loud “If the food and service was okay” which honestly I got so happy about, like that was nice, we all responded with yes everything was fine, to which he hit us with “Well why is the tip so low” WHATTTTTTTTTT ??? I COULDNT BELIEVE WHAT IM HEARING. My boyfriend immediately pulled out cash and just passed it to him so he can get away from the table, but I wished that I was able to think quick in the moment, because what would’ve been the right thing to do was to ask for the bill back & just scratch off the tip part, because after you begging for more, you didn’t even deserve what you’ve got. That was such poor service on your part & you ruined every good experience I’ve had at Red...
