This gym has become clearly mismanaged. My first gripe is with the hygiene of the men's locker room. The locker room is so poorly kept it is abysmal. The lockers for the most part don't function, the locks don't engage thus not allowing them to be locked with a lock. Secondly lockers are filled with garbage on a regular basis and and not routinely cleaned as I have seen the same garbage in the same lockers for days/ weeks. Most unhygienic of all are the conditions of the showers. The shower curtains are covered in mold (see photos) and are almost never changed. For an item so cheap to replace its pathetic. The shower heads are covered in limescale and other mineral build up (see photos), another item that is cheap to replace/ maintain. Next is the gym floor itself, the gym is extremely disorganized as there is no staff member(s) dedicated to organizing or cleaning up the gym floor. There are cable handle attachments strewn through the gym never returned to where they belong. The weight trees are completely empty at all times because nobody reracks the weights. Multiple adjustable and flat benches are dangerously loose/ broken including the "power systems" (an amazon grade bench that does not belong in a commercial gym) flat benches that have bolts that are hand tight waiting for someone to get injured. Items remain misplaced and disorganized for days on end because the gym seems to no longer have anyone clean up at nights end. Overall it seems the staff and management here have no care for the gym as they should notice these obvious...
Read moreI was introduced to Gold’s by someone last year when I started taking lifting and fitness more seriously. My old gym simply wasn’t serving my needs anymore.
Gold’s has a vast variety of equipment, lots of space, and plenty of machines - there’s so much to do. I’ve gone all hours of the day, and even during the busiest times, I never found myself waiting too long (if at all) for a machine/piece of equipment.
The staff is exceptional - they’re all super friendly, welcoming and actually care about providing a pleasant experience to their guests. I’m always greeted by Tom every time I come, which makes me feel seen and welcomed (who, by the way, is an asset to the gym. Wonderful soul who’s always positive and encouraging!) The members, too, are fantastic - like-minded people with serious fitness goals, or even just regular people trying to get their daily workout in, but people who ACTUALLY take the gym seriously - you don’t have anybody showing up in jeans or anybody being outwardly obnoxious/inconsiderate like most other gyms I’ve been to.
Not to mention, the place is SPOTLESS. They always have people cleaning the bathrooms, locker rooms and machines.
For me, the gym is a safe space and a place where I truly feel my confident self. Gold’s has been the catalyst in intensifying my love and dedication for the gym. I travel over a half an hour every day just for the experience! Wonderful staff, lovely members, amazing amenities. Couldn’t...
Read moreI have been lifting weights for the past 40 years and recentIy injured my shoulder pretty badly. After 16 weeks of trying to rehab on my own, seeing an orthopedic surgeon, getting an MRI and doing a month of doctor prescribed physical therapy, I was still in a good deal of pain and was feeling pretty hopeless. Steve Cirbus, Personal Training Director at Gold’s Gym in Middletown recommended that I have a consult to train with Tyrese Gumbs, one of the full time trainers at the gym. Tyrese and I worked together for the first week to isolate exactly where my injury was, as the shoulder is a complex web of muscles and tendons. Once he figured out where my pain was coming from, he created workouts for me that helped heal and strengthen the area of injury, while also helping me to correct my form and use of muscles. Tyrese then developed a plan of full body workouts, off day cardio exercises all without my agitating or re-injuring my shoulder. He even created a great meal plan for me to help support my nutritional goals. Within 3-4 weeks, I was able to train pain free which was amazing. Thank you Tyrese for your professionalism, great knowledge of body physiology and a great training experience...
