Burritt's Fresh Markets — Attraction in Traverse City

While waiting for my uncle, who was searching for a specialty item in another area of Burritt’s, my father and I were browsing in the wine section. I was looking for a particular wine that is made locally in Leelanau County, but was hesitant to inquire about it due to its admittedly “affordable” price point. (The wine in question is delicious, and I routinely tell anyone who will listen that it tastes far more expensive than it is.)

Despite my insistence that we refrain from inquiring about the thrifty AND delightful wine, my father took it upon himself to ask an employee at the wine counter, who I later learned is named Shawn, if the wine I was looking for is carried by Burritt’s. I felt a bit sheepish, but thought “How bad can it be? I’m sure this fellow will be a kind gentleman.” How very wrong I was.

Instead of politely and graciously explaining that Burritt’s does not sell the refreshing, locally-made wine in question, Shawn scoffed and replied, “Oh no, we don’t carry anything by that brand. You can find it at CVS across the street. If I was going to carry that kind of wine, I’d quickly enter a race to the bottom.” My father and I politely thanked Shawn and promptly exited the store, wide-eyed and in disbelief.

Needless to say, I will not be returning to Burritt’s, for wine or anything else, ever again. I’ll also be sure to share this unfortunate experience with everyone I know who lives in or travels to Traverse City. My favorite shop! Has the best selection of meats, seafood, fresh produce from local farms, and tons of pre-made selections. I love their dips! It's my treat every so often. Their salads are great and their bbq pulled pork is my favorite of any restaurant! It's that good. They have pretzel buns right there waiting. They have a ton of sausage which I don't usually buy but I've tried it and it's really good. My dad loves it! Plus they are soo nice there! They always say hi and ask you how your day is going. I am truly impressed with Burritts customer service and level of professionalism. I went to Burritts with the intention to buy some Red Snapper Fish. When it comes on to seafood, I am extremely picky. I spoke with Tyler, Who possess a wealth of knowledge. At first glance, I noticed that all the Fish was Fillet. I mentioned that I like my fish whole and not fillet. Tyler understood, and answered all my burning questions. He was able to customize my order and it arrived in a timely manner.
