I rented a home on Donner Lake to celebrate with family for a 50th wedding anniversary. One and half hrs prior to check in I received an email message that the house could not be occupied because a tree fell on it. I went to the location 2 hrs after the message and there was no tree that fell on the property. This was all communicated to me by the parent company Vacasa (the relocation department) and not the local office in Truckee. I asked the relocation dept to validate the supposed tree issue with the local office and they said they did and that the concern was validated and the home could not be occupied. I personally found another location in the area through AirBnB but this last minute cancellation and what appeared to be a lie was concerning to me. Having had to make several phone calls including asking to speak to a manager I finally received a call from the Truckee Vacasa representative who told me that there was as I suspected no tree that fell on the property and he didn't know who made that reason up. There were apparently other reasons for not allowing occupancy - waiting for documentation from the homeowner that the home had been cleared for occupancy by a structural engineer. I can appreciate this effort but as was expressed to the Truckee representative it is unacceptable to wait until 1.5 hours before check in to tell a group of 12 that the house can't be utilized. Clearly the practice of the parent company is to give preference to the homeowner who's renting their home rather than the customer who is doing the renting. (Vacasa knew there might be an issue with this home days before our stay was to take place.) The relocation team which is apparently very much out of the area offered unacceptable options for our family of 12 with only a refund option and a 15% discount the next time I book with Vacasa. This won't happen for me as I have lost trust for their last minute business practices. I would recommend that you make every effort to deal with homeowners on platforms like Air BnB for direct communication...
Read moreBeware. Do not rent at 14254 Herringbone Way Truckee, CA 96161. We booked our stay on Vacasa for 2/9-2/11. Amenities are okay at vacation rental but your cars WILL get stuck in driveway. Website does not warn travelers. The driveway is the ONLY place to park in residential area during winter months where snow banks accumulate and plows run daily. After spending several hours trying to exit driveway using every method available including help from a Good Samaritan neighbor who stated, “They shouldn’t rent this place. Everyone gets stuck. 4 cars were stuck here before you arrived.” We called insurance to have cars towed from driveway. Note in photos below: cars had chains. The nightmare didn’t end there. The tow driver suggested we park on a flat parking space just up the road as our now freed cars were blocking traffic. 2 hours later our 2 vehicles were GONE. The innocuous parking space, measuring approximately 100 feet wide by 20 feet deep, with snow bank on three sides, and no address to alert vehicles it is private property is a tow trap. Your vehicle WILL get towed from 14036 Herringbone Way, Truckee without any warning and within minutes of parking there. North Valley Towing & Recovery charged us $2600.00 to release our vehicles the next morning. This is a complete scam. We were held hostage at our rental, not able to leave property for entire stay. Thank god we were able to get food delivery. This was the worst travel experience of our lives. We forfeited 2 prepaid ski packages for 2 adults and 3 children and went hungry for 2 days because owners of rental don’t maintain there driveway during winter months. It’s our hope that no family has to experience...
Read moreUpdate on 8/7 To say I have not recieved reimbursement from the management company as they mentioned they were working on in their response to my review. Nice. No frills. Homewood California cabin on Interlaken Rd. Close to the lake. It was a nice vacation rental. Roomier than it looked in the pictures. Interesting artwork. Tv was upstairs. There isn't pier or beach access as implied in other reviews. There are also other items missing from the cabin that appear available in the listing. The fireplace didn't work. The property management team and point of contact wasn't available and didn't get back to me the whole trip. Still expecting a refund. If there are any real emergencies you'd be on your own. There's no stop signs in the neighborhood at intersections and locals or tourists do not obey regular driving rules so be careful driving through communities because they won't stop. Locals or other tourists allow their dogs to roam the area off leash so be careful if you bring your dog because the locals won't clean up after their dogs so you might have to clean up after them like i did or maybe face cleaning fee charges? Communication with vacasa is also unreliable and it seems like there are many different companies or teams mismanaging these rentals. Went for my wife's birthday, and our vacation, although not entirely ruined, was definitely soured by this poor experience as well as many others in the area. Lake Tahoe, while beautiful doesnt always seem friendly to tourists. Note: obexers general store is now in a blue building under some trading post moniker. The bed was comfy and the shower had good...
