Downtown Truckee has a visitor center with souvenirs and maps. It is located downtown with all the shops and restaurants. You have to pay 1.50 parking per hour, which isn't too bad. It is beautiful in March with bright spring days overlooking snow capped mountains covered in pines. There are snow gear rentals and places for lodging, but call in advance! They are not cheap! Boreal, Sugar bowl and Donner snow park are near, 15 to 20 minutes or so. We only went for a day but it was lovely. We will be back.

Cute, quaint downtown. Easily walkable in a few hours to window shop and get something to eat or drink or both. Sidewalks are #accessible for all - nice and flat for strollers, wheelchairs, and walkers. There is a free historical museum with a jail cell to visit. The Welcome California Visitor Center is a part of the Truckee Transportation Center (Greyhound Bus Station, Local bus, and Amtrak Station). Parking meters are now 7 days a week on both the Main Street, side and back streets.

The visitor center was super clean and had some really nice locally made shirts and souvenirs. The staff was knowledgeable staff. They even a cool little shelf of used local books that I had difficulty not buying all of. Definitely recommend starting your day here then figuring out how you want to continue. I had a bit of a time crunch so didn't spend time browsing many of the cool shops but this was a great little one stop shop before heading up for my day around the lake.

Clean public restroom. We got of...was it 89 following signs to this place. It was a long way through a lot of traffic. I would not visit again. The better half was a shorter trip to get on 80 when we were done. There were only a few parking spaces and half were reserved for electric vehicles. It is the first place I have seen a handicapped space for an electric vehicle. The two handicapped parking spots were one van accessible and the other said reserved for electric vehicles. I ignored the electric vehicle sign so I could leave the van space open if someone needed it. I think it is very hard for the vans to make do without their proper spaces. Hopefully anyone disabled with an electric vehicle has figured out...
