I would give this gym 5 Stars if the bathrooms and showers weren't so disgusting due to inadequate staffing from what I've noticed.. I refuse to use them and haven't in 7 years!!...no cleaning staff on the weekends!!... with the so-called renovation I'd assumed they'd changed the tiles on the floor and shower room walls... yet they were content with the old style square individual ones that hold germs and mold ... the furniture in the women's is dated and worn....from what I recall they've been there since the grand opening... I've witnessed cheap reupholstering once or twice for their go to and from what I understand they've been there since the grand opening ...several of the dispensers are often empty or broken throughout the gym... the televisions are mounted from the ceiling giving you no control over what you can watch while using the elliptical, bikes or treadmills.... basically you're forced to watch either CNN or sports.. that's it!!.. you wont be near the televisions if you utilize ellipticals as they are centered behind the treadmills... to tune In you have to use a radio signal from your phone... so don't forget it!! really?...no Wi-Fi .. the only two rowers are in a designated area that you're not allowed to use unless you have a personal trainer.. therefore if you rowing is your thing it's a no-go!.. 5 through 25 lb weights are rarely accessible during peak times.. I believe they have 3 of each which I find odd for such a massive gym....aside from this they've gotten better with equipment maintenance... they have exceptional lighting... staff and clientele are extremely helpful and friendly... there's no body shaming and the younger patrons treat the elders with respect... to my surprise I've never witnessed one fight in the basketball area being that the patrons who utilize it are usually 30 and under... they simply wait their turn.. I rarely have to wait to use the workout equipment other than the smaller weights that I mentioned... trust me it's plentiful... you won't be shoulder-to-shoulder with anyone because this gym is huge plus a double decker!!... it boasts a swimming pool, sauna, jacuzzi, 9 racquetball courts, I repeat 9!!...a basketball court, personal training area, front lounge area, private locker rental area, smoothie and snack bar with a sitting area, cycling room, boxing, dancehall and lastly a spacious private child play area with an attendant all separate from the gym ... after 9 p.m. during the weekday and all through the weekend the gym is practically yours... The parking lot is spacious with mounted cameras.. it's directly off the strip and less than three blocks from the expressway which I love!... I feel very safe as the police quarters is located across the street and they rove the lot while periodically parking... I do wish they'd consider extending the weekends as I've absent-mindedly traveled tthere only to recall that they close at 8 p.m...come on really?... weekday hours are till 11 p.m.... still the amenities, staff and low fee that I pay, collectively make it worth my while regardless...
Read moreAfter shutting its somewhat aging doors for two weeks in March of 2016 for a much needed face-lift, LA Fitness reopens.
Alas, like a lot of former celebrities looking to nip and tuck their way towards reviving a heyday a decade or two in the past...the new LA Fitness somehow manages to look both familiar and also slightly depressing.
But to their credit, the they did install some faux hardwood flooring,
And the new flooring is indeed an improvement over the brown-carpetting-and-orange-wallpaper to which we'd all become accustomed...a color scheme that had more in common with "That 70`s Show" than with exercise and fitness.
But that's an aside. The point is, LA Fitness clearly cares about its customers, and this caring is evidenced by the new laminate flooring.
And while less-ambitious companies might just throw in some laminate flooring, rest on their laurels, and call it a day, LA Fitness wasn't nearly done.
They also repainted part of the men's old locker room and put up a poster of a smiling man, exercising. The placid expression on the face of Mr. Locker Room Poster Man made it clear he was very happy to be exercising at the newly-refurbished LA Fitness.
Either they, or he had just invested in a laminate wood-flooring company that had just signed a big national contact.
In hindsight, I guess LA Fitness was actually nearly done at this point.
That's because, like a D-list Hollywood celebrity who had grown tanned, tucked, and lethargic after years of squandering the support of the public, the new LA Fitness face-lift actually does nothing so much as draw attention to the various inadequacies still left glaringly untended.
On tonight's trip, I counted eleven recumbent bikes on the cardio floor.
Why do I know this exact number, you might ask?
Because I had a lot of trouble finding one that actually worked. Five of the eleven were inoperative...a ratio of working- to not-working equipment that hasn't changed in the list 24 months at this location, and I suspect others.
But, I'm happy to say that the hip new design aesthetic carries over into this area, too.
In the past, unsuspecting customers had to blindly wander from machine to machine in hopes of finding one that works.
Today instead, LA Fitness treats it's customers not just to faux flooring, but also to faux ironic hipster signage...this, in the form of sharpie-scrawled handwritten messages on masking tape.
Anyway, I'm not sure how this whole face-lift thing will play to LA Fitness' core audience. But I do give them kudos for going the extra inch.
Well, I'm not sure they went the entire extra inch. So I'll give them kudos for not just rolling over and dying.
Which admittedly would have been a path involving slightly less effort than the one they...
Read moreI went there on 8th of June 2015. I was working out on my usual days which are Mondays and Wednesday. I've been there several times, never had any issue at this one or anyone nor do I know anyone at this location. After I was done working I went in the Men's locker room to change. As I was using the bathroom one of the male staff members approached me respectfully and asked was I in the women's bathroom using their scale. I said no. He said I fit the description because I was black and had dread locs. Then while I was exiting the building the cleaning staff lady said she just spoke to me about using the scale in the women's bathroom. I never had a conversation or even seen her before because I usually keep it to myself when I'm in there. Then the front desk staff member asked me the same question implying that I was not telling the truth so she advised me that there are 2 other ladies and if they identify me my membership will be canceled so I was like ok. When she said I can leave and I will be called about the status of the situation because she didn't want me to be in the building when the ladies identify me, I was skeptical. I then called the authorities to clear the situation because I wanted to resolve the situation before leaving the building. When the police arrived I explained the situation and he then went to talk to the front desk woman staff member. Once he was done he told me to step outside. All I was told is that my membership is being canceled and I would be trespassing. No other witness was brought fort as stated by the woman employee. I left without any resistance because I was innocent. I called corporate and all I was told is that they would call them to get their side of the story. This is a very serious matter. It doesn't make sense to anyone that a 36 yr old man with his company shirt would violate policy and use the women's locker-room to use a scale. No one that was working out resembles me. I was just targeted by the women staff. again this is a serious issue because if I was accused of theft or even attempted rape I wouldn't have a leg to stand on just because I so called fit the description of the person they thought they saw. There is noting wrong with LA Fitness. I love their facility in Florida, Georgia, and Texas but at this location I was discriminated against because of my hair. Now I am paranoid because all it takes is for more than one person to go with a lie and you can be falsely accused. This is a very serious issue with the woman staff and the cleaning lady. If you just want to workout and not want to jeopardize your freedom by people who discriminate I would not go to this location. Better...
