A real honest review of Carrington College nursing program I am in my 6th and final semester of nursing school at Carrington College. There are pros and cons to attending this school. First the Pros -It is a small campus and classes a usually no more than 30 people. So education is personalized and your instructors, dean, and campus staff know you by name and if they see you struggling they will do their best to help you. the school is accredited so you will sit for the NCLEX-RN -The program is accelerated (20 months) no summer breaks and usually no breaks in between semesters, so it's in and out. -There isn't a long wait to get your authorization to test for the NCLEX-RN because the Dean is pretty amazing at getting your paperwork out to the Board of Nursing. You are taught by nurses who have bedside experience. You are given every opportunity to be successful, and if you fail a course you get held back to the cohort behind your current cohort. You don't get dismissed from the program until you fail for a third time (most of the time) After a threat of a campus shooting the security of campus it top-notch, probably the safest campus in Tucson. after that same threat all students were given access to councilors. you have immediate access to your instructors via teams so no long wait times for answers (most of the time) the Dean and campus direct inspect classes to make sure things are being taught in an appropriate manner and take student complaints seriously There are opportunities for scholarships career fairs are held for all students campus events happen here and there the Tucson community is interested in hiring you. The cohort that just graduated in March have all passed their nclex except one (17 out of 18) and the ones who have passed are all working in their preferred specialties such as ER, ICU, Medsurg, and Maternity there is now a BSN program if you want to continue your education past the ADN the school recently started allowing tattoos, colored hair, and piercings. The Cons -The program is still relatively young compared to U of A, Pima community college, And PMI so it cant be unorganized and things are often done last minute so if you have a family or work it can be difficult to plan your life. A lot of equipment in the skills lab needs an update. the program is expensive at $58,000 Getting sick with anything other than covid is an unexcused absence and there is a chance of being held back. If you miss two consecutive classes within 14 days you can be failed. Things change constantly from the curriculum to the way things are taught, teachers (high turnover rate), and schedules. it's an accelerated program so there are no breaks, and you will burn out. after the shooting threat the campus director came into our class to clarify a few things the conversation felt very degrading and dismissive. While we were given access to counseling we were not given tutoring or extra help with our classes that were missed. Since it is a small campus, even a class size of 25-30 can be overcrowded. It makes clinical hard, skills lab hard, and class hard. many people have struggled with getting campus staff to communicate in a timely fashion. there are people who have struggled to get money from the loans/FAFSA and scholarships that they have gotten due to a lack of communication. DRAMA DRAMA DRAMA! everyone is stressed and tired and when you put 30ish women in one room for too long you will have problems. Bullying is an issue. Your tuition only covers two sets of uniforms for 20 months. That doesn't sound too bad but they don't last very long. 9-month long core programs like MA and Dental, I'm sure the two sets last just fine but for associate programs they really don't last. this school uses ATI testing which can be really frustrating...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI just finished my program for medical assisting, had my last day of extern ystrdy actually! I had the best time during my very short time here at carrington (9 months the flew by in the blink of an eye!!!). The scheduling at carrington was the biggest decision in me going back to school. I was expected to be on campus 2x a week for 4.5 hours vs. other schools that wanted me there 5 days a week. & I am 100% happy with my decision to attend this college. I was placed in Miss Kristinaās class and I love her, she was very supportive and prepared me well for my journey in becoming a medical assistant and passing my exam to become certified with my CCMA. Not only did I get really great instructor, but the program director Miss Nubia was lovely as well. She was readily available for any questions I had, and also played a big part in ensuring that I was able to finish my journey to becoming an MA. Everyone here at carrington was very supportive and had really great communication in any questions I had about literally ANYTHING. Iām very sad the time flew by, but so excited I was able to start my journey into the healthcare field with the amazing supporters Iāve had, like Miss Kristina & Miss Nubia, throughout my time here at Carrington College. Thank you for all you guys have...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreUPDATE I still love this school ! š¹ Iāve been bragging about it to everyone since I was a PCC nursing student and I was treated like š© over there! This transfer has been amazing compared to PCC š Iām soo happy, eager to learn, not stressed. Iām already almost done with nursing school. 2 more semesters to go basically! The teachers and everyone is extremely supportive and thereās soo many chances for growth!
I am a nursing student, and I really don't want to jinx it for myself or. 'jump the gun' but the communication in this Tucson campus is amazing! Like from the Dean, to my advisor (Ahmed who is amazing!), to even my professors. Shout out to April as well, she is the best (she does the financial aspect). Communication is key for me because it lets me know people are serious and really do care. So far, my 1 class I am taking is going smooth and great, and my professor answers my questions in less than 24hrs.
I will update this review the more I go along the way, but I really wanted to let people know, because when I searched Carrington up, they have really horrible reputations (on other campuses) and not much on Tucson campus for nursing. So that made me nervous. Just wanted to tell everyone that it is great and...
