Wow, what a great museum!
I understand this collection has recently relocated from the Flandrau Center to the Historic Courthouse. The building itself is a cool setting, and the museum inside is great. A very open, modern space with a great collection.
They have a large variety of gems, minerals, meteorites, jewelry, mining, history, etc. A bit if something for everyone. The layout is nice and easy to follow, and they have very friendly and helpful Docents throughout to answer questions.
There are some truly beautiful specimens that make the trip worth it by themselves, and they are continuously building and adding to the collection. They said they will also periodically change out items that are on loan (around 20% of the displays), so the collection is always changing.
Overall I'm very impressed, and would definitely come back. They also validate parking for the Presidio parking garage! Worth a visit for sure, and you can check out the rest of the Historic...
Read moreFamily of 4. 3 adults & 1 kid and we paid around $50. We moved through the exhibits at different speeds - but we all enjoyed it. An 1.5 hour was sufficient for my 12 year old and my geology loving partner could have spent 3+ hours here. This GEM* of a museum was in a gorgeous building near UofA. Parking was easy within a short distance to entrance. The individuals responsible for curating this collection deserve high praise. Absolutely stunning specimens & history. They had exhibits geared towards Arizona as well as interactive and educational displays for all ages. The museum is a work in progress. A few bare spots throughout the museum & some displays were a little high for my height & obstructed my ideal view. These negatives were not enough to impact my rating or experience. I consider myself to have an average interest in rocks & gems and truly found the experience enjoyable and...
Read moreVisiting the University of Arizona Alfie Norville Gem & Mineral Museum was such a fun experience! Tickets were $15 per adult, and we arrived around 10:30 AM, wandering through the exhibits until 1 PM. We brought a backpack with some snacks and enjoyed them on the benches placed throughout the museum.
The staff at the entrance and throughout the museum were fantastic—welcoming, knowledgeable, and happy to answer questions. The museum’s layout, divided into three sections, kept visitors engaged and moving through the space. We visited on a Wednesday, and it wasn’t crowded at all.
The variety of specimens on display was incredible—so much to see for any gem and mineral enthusiast! We’d definitely recommend this museum to anyone who enjoys geology, minerals, or just exploring...
