The shop, owners, employees, and customers alike are all family in my eyes. Which, sure, out of context doesnt mean much to anyone reading this. But Black Dragon Games is and has always been a place when I know I can visit to see a friendly face. So much so that it's become an issue in the past with friends of mine tagging along to the shop for a "quick 10 minute stop to buy some mtg singles" and 30 minutes later I'm still giving out hugs and saying goodbye. The staff is excellent at first however the longer you get to know them the more welcome they make you feel. They start addressing you by name, asking about games you play or various hobbies you may have and in general taking an interest in the personal lives of they customers. Which is beyond rare in retail this day in age. Go to Walmart and tell me any of the employees (who you dont already know or are related to) know your name of their own accord. It never happens in the big box stores. Yet in this store it does.
As for the play environment, very rarely do I go in there to an empty house. Consistently filled with people (granted, not PACKED, but still busy) who are either having a blast playing dnd, various board games or endulging in the occasional salt fest that Magic can be. Regardless of the emotions in the shop. One thing remains the same. This place is an oasis to those who could use some time away from life in general. Because weather you're salty, crying from laughter, or in the corner playing your switch/brewing up the new deck you'll take all your friends out with. You can bet that the people at the shop have been given, at the very least, a small break from reality.
As for the prices. They base them off of TCG player market price I believe. I'm uncertain. However I'd be happier if everything was free but that's no way to run a buisness and I suppose they certainly stayed open for 3 years by making some amount of money. I'm sure that i alone am responsible for keeping those doors open, and the lights on for at the very least, 3 of those 36 months.
Food/snacks, they have plenty of each. Which is good, I tend to graze while I play. But they also have a place less then 30 feet away that sells some of the best street tacos in twin.
For those who didn't read my who review. Heres the abridged version. Black dragon games has quickly become the only place I go to buy any of my gaming supplies or need. In addition to being the only shop I play in consistently due to the large amount of format variety they offer. If you looking for a new nerd hub. Let them be your place. As for the folks at black dragon games. I love you guys and I cant cheer your praise loudly enough. ♡♡ please keep up the...
Read moreNew magic player here and I suffer from short term memory loss and TBI. Not a learning disability place to try to learn. THEE WORST game shop I've ever visited. Went in trying to learn how to play magic on a pre release night, told them even if I wone they could have the packs as long as they would teach me a little more (it's kinda alot to take in) and they refused so I did my best. I was supposed to play 3 games in a 50 minute long round had a lady that couldnt play much because her child was running around getting into stuff coulent play won by default because I quit and left
So I just returned to try and talk it out like they said to do in their "reply back" and they told me that if I had learning disabilities that they didnt want people like me in there and that I was black listed never allowed to come back in there ever again that people like me should go play somewhere else. Really? Really!!! Why because I have mental health disorders that cause me to not be like a normal person because I get upset because someone agreed to teach me then when I was about to win quite teaching me told me i was on my own so i ended my turn and she calls me stupid so i get mad because shes calling me stupid on a game I'm trying to learn and then the shop owner chris tells me that I'm black listed because I got mad and cussed because I'm not stupid I may have a few screws loose but I'm far from stupid! The end fact is, is that this place is a joke I wouldnt ever come back to play I wouldnt even recomend them for your kids not the best place for anyone to learn sportsmanship or how to be kind the bigger man nothing I would recommend Beckmon' Card Shop on blue lakes super friendly and available to help teach at anytime I hope some of you will see the part of this that isnt right to treat people like that and i have the freedom of speech so I'm going to tell it how it is and how my experience was nothing short of a joke for a shop that's supposed to bring in new people and start teaching them that's how you get customers not running it by who's your favorite and who has been coming to your shop the longest which is exactly what they did to me they knew the girls name and even interrupted me so I know they will black list anyone who doesnt get along with the...
Read moreEditing my original review from a few years back. In short: newer small business hipster game store with the aim of charging way too much money while attempting to maintain the façade of “small town culture.” Just like every other business in twin falls that’s opened in the past five years. That’s kinda the only type of business or consumption around this tourist trap of a city, in their defense.
Expensive stuff so that they can turn a higher profit. I can imagine it’s gotten worse since the whole Pokémon card craze thing, but I don’t know anything about that market, so I’m not able to comment on that. The majority come here to play games, Yugioh/MTG/D&D with other people, it seems.
They obviously aren’t the only place you can sell cards or games to, so if you come here, you’re probably more likely to spend money instead of making a buck. And to anyone reading this review, looking to sell their cards here: get a job. Unemployed ahh. You look like a fiend.
Whether you’re looking to buy something, sell something. Not my cup of tea, I’d rather go to Beckmon's. If you need DnD stuff, I definitely wouldn’t buy that stuff new, especially books. Target or eBay has a better selection at a fraction of the price. Or just ask people that you know have played or associated with D&D because odds are, you or someone you know has a dad/brother/uncle/cousin who can just give you a...
