Tybee Market IGA — Attraction in Tybee Island

I love the meat selection there (not deli). Always priced good and quality products offered. The produce needs addressing as it isn't always fresh. I had 3 issues with the IGA brand roast beef, but it was addressed after I reported it with a refund for the 3rd ones I bought, subs from the deli and packaged roast beef, one pound. Honestly I haven't bought it again after that since I got sick all 3 times. It was unfortunate as I love shopping there. Some things are priced higher than they are in town, but that's the cost of convenience for it being on the island and not having to drive farther into town. The store itself needs an overhaul inside though. Really it is outdated. I wish so bad they would do an overhaul because I hear all the time from people not from Tybee how terrible they think IGA is there. Really it isn't, it's just outdated inside. Outside it looks much nicer since the remodel, but once inside it is clear that didn't go far inside. The subs there use to be my favorite thing to eat. Months ago that all changed. I don't know why or what happened to cause this, but 3 instances from me personally with the IGA brand roast beef was my order. My boyfriend got sick as well 2 of those times he got one with me. The 3rd time it was my daughter and I which was why I called it in finally and it was addressed, but still the damage was done and her weekend was ruined. I just hope it gets a much needed overhaul in updates, cleanliness and fresher produce and deli meats. Oh, also they offer now grocery delivery which is awesome. Only comment there was that I fouud when I tried it out was that some of what I wanted and described wasn't what was delivered which made the cost go up and products I actually wanted I got another brand than I had described. This is an easy remedy with an online POS ordering form instead of the fill in way it is being done with very few characters allowed in each box. Too much error allowed in that methods. If a skew with the UPC is done then that type is confusion would be eliminated. Another issue of being caught up with the times, but great though food delivery is...

I never imagined completing a Google review on a grocery store,, unless perhaps i had a horrible experience and I wanted to vent. In this case, however, I feel compelled to complete a review because I had such a positive experience at this store.

My family (parents, adult children and grandchildren) were on vacation at Tybee this past week. We cooked meals at our vacation rental most of the time we were there, and went as a family to Tybee Market to purchase the food at the beginning of the vacation. Additionally, one of more of us came back to the market every day of our vacation to purchase additional items.

We were very impressed with the friendly and helpful staff every time we came in. Also impressive was the quality of meat and produce. We were also impressed with the fact that you can find virtually anything you might need at this store.

What was most impressive, however, was the competitive prices, if not better than average prices, that we found at Tybee Market as compared to virtually any store anywhere. Given the fact that Tybee Island is a vacation destination, we not only anticipated, but even expected higher than a average prices. Not so with Tybee Market. Kudos to this business for not gouging customers even though they could easily do so.

Mr Hosti does a great job of keeping prices pretty competitive, which means even fewer reasons to leave the island. Most of your grocery and deli needs can be fulfilled quite nicely at the Tybee Market. If you want to cook foods from other countries, the supply of spices can't match what you would find in one of the specialty markets in Savannah. The meats are excellent with a great butcher at the back of the store. If you want a special cut, ask! The deli sandwiches are fantastic, and there is a good selection of special cheeses. The fresh produce tends to suffer a bit; be sure to be picky about what you take in terms of fruits, vegetables, lettuce and the like. For such a small store, there is a great selection of a number of foods - go there first, and save up your off-island shopping for the stuff they don't...
