I don't normally post unless someone or an establishment goes over and beyond what is required for their job or services, or something is extremely bad or very poor service. However, I felt I need to write a review of this hotel given there are so many 5 star ratings which does not reflect this hotel in terms of cleanliness, maintenance and other observations that I made while at the hotel for maybe 5 minutes. This hotel was recommended as a smoke free hotel for the out of town guests, by a friend who was having a graduation celebration in the Savannah area. I reserved the hotel check-in 5/3 with check-out on 5/5. I was charged $581.52 for the 2 nights for the King Inland View. I arrived on 5/3/2024 about 5:00PM with another family member. We checked in at the registration desk which is across the parking lot from the hotel. We were assigned our rooms (different rooms). My room was on the 2nd floor (Inland View, this is a view of the parking lot and the building isn't that tall. Now I know what that is!). The other guest was checked into a room on the 1st floor, same building. After registration, we parked the car in the parking lot and entered the building. Upon entering the building, there was a very dirty black (that looked gray) ice machine right at the entrance next to the elevator. The place smelled like stale "weed". The carpet was dirty. I immediately felt an allergic reaction to the cleanliness (throat clearing, nose blocked, etc). One elevator was not working and there were maintenance men working on the broken elevator closest to the entrance door. I took the other elevator to 2nd floor. The elevator needed a good cleaning as well. I went to my room and spend about less than 5 mins in the room before the other guest who came with me called me and said she was having problems breathing and couldn't stay at the hotel. It was also becoming more difficult for me to breathe the longer I stayed in the hotel. We took our stuff and put it in our car and went back to the Registration Desk. We explained that the cleanliness and maintenance of our rooms was an issue and the building was a health hazard for both of us. What is the coincidence that we are on 2 different floors/rooms in the hotel and we both have the same reaction when we walked into the hotel. Anyway, the front desk/Manager charged me $114.00 cancellation fee and said that they would not be able to rent the room out based on me not being able to stay in the room. Instead of the focus being getting the rooms cleaned so that other guests do not have similar medical emergencies. In addition, the manager offered to give us 2 other rooms in the other building however, what would be the odds of getting a room that is clean and lack residual smoke, etc. We refused the manager's offer given there was no acknowledgement to address our issue which is the moldiness of the building and stale smoke that probably triggered my allergic reaction. I guess this is a bigger issue with the overall building itself. The manager tried to make it seem like it was the GA seasonal allergies that was causing our reaction. However, I spent all weekend outdoors on Tybee Island. I was at a house (indoor and outdoor) where the graduation gathering was held and did not have an issues with breathing etc. My health is more important than giving an establishment my business than does not value cleanliness and maintaining a building as it's first priority for its guests. Some of my other observations that doesn't seem to match some of the hotel descriptions and online reviews. I had the opportunity to be on the beach behind the hotel. While the hotel is on the beach, it seemed like only the 3rd floor rooms may have a clear view of the beach because there are some very tall trees at the back of the hotel which obscure the view from the 1st and 2nd floor rooms. My final thought is that this is more of a Motel than a hotel on the beach. I checked out on arrival and went to a reputable Hotel where I could breathe, sleep in comfort and enjoy the amenities offered...

BEWARE PEOPLE:

When a hotel doesn't even care for the flag that's worn out for weeks, don't be surprised what else you'd find out. Keep reading.

So, I gotta spill the tea about our recent stay at Hotel Tybee during the Memorial Holiday weekend. Let me tell you, it was far from the lit experience we were hoping for. Buckle up, 'cause I'm about to spill all the deets on the major letdowns.

First off, we arrived just an hour early, thinking it wouldn't be a big deal. But guess what? The front desk had the audacity to hit us with a $50 charge just to check in early. Talk about a buzzkill! I mean, come on, flexibility and customer service should be the name of the game in the hospitality biz.

The pool situation was straight-up disappointing. Picture this: leaves everywhere, like they hadn't bothered to clean it in ages. And the water? Ugh, don't even get me started. It smelled like if kids urinated in it and it hadn't been treated properly. I didn't sign up for a swampy experience, thank you very much.

There was no breakfast provided at the hotel. Seriously, what year is this? We had to go out and join the hangry hordes waiting in endless lines at restaurants. I mean, I'm all about exploring local eats, but when you're expecting a quick breakfast situation, this is a major letdown for the night price we had to pay.

Parking was a whole other hot mess. Turns out, the hotel opened parking spaces to the public. So, where does that leave paying guests like us especiallyin the evening? Yup, you guessed it. Scramble to find street parking and shell out for those pricey hourly city rates. Talk about a headache! A little guest priority would've gone a long way.

Let's not forget about the staff especiallythe day shift. They were anything but friendly or helpful. It felt like they couldn't care less about our presence and if we were an inconvenience for them to answer general inquiries. Rude much? In the hospitality industry, a smile and a welcoming vibe should be the bare minimum even if you hated your job.

Oh, and the check-in process was a total drag. We stood there for a solid 30 minutes, surrounded by a crowd of impatient people. Some poor souls even had to endure over 40 minutes just to get their keys. Seriously, in this day and age, there's no excuse for such inefficiency. Time is money!

The hotel itself was showing its real age. The elevator was acting up as if it was going to fall off the sky. Worn-out furniture, signs of dirt and rust everywhere—it was not a good look. And don't get me started on the paper-thin walls. We could practically hear our neighbors' conversations and their epic loud music. Sleep? Yeah, right. Soundproofing is clearly not a thing here.

To top it all off, when we asked for a readable copy of the free bike waiver, the employee got all huffy and made us wait while they pretended to be busy with someone else. We had to eventually walk away. Seriously, I just wanted a simple favor, not a brush-off. A little customer SERVICE.

All in all, save yourself the disappointment and find a spot that actually cares about giving you a rad experience for the...

After many years of staying at Hotel Tybee my husband and I have decided this will be our last. From the stays we had while we were dating, to when he asked me to marry him on the pier, to when we took our honey moon, to now bringing our family we unfortunately have witnessed the hotels decline. The rooms--specifically the bathroom was honestly disgusting. The shower/ tub had mildew or some type of discoloration that made it hard to feel clean after taking a shower. The bottom of the bathroom door had water damage to it that the paint was coming off. The first night we had to call and ask for the shampoo and body wash dispensers to be filled since they were empty. I had thankfully brought travel sized shampoo and body wash so I did not need it that night. The receptionist was sweet, but stated that she would not be on shift the next morning to give the message so to call back the next day to request it. We ran out of bath towels and had to call to get some delivered to our room as well as toilet paper and trash bags since our trash can was now full. Those were delivered promptly. We stayed three nights--after the delivery request we never received another roll of toilet paper and with two young kids it ran our fast--we had to take some toilet paper from the public restroom on the beach to have in our room. I did call to request refills, but no one answered at the front desk and no one answered at the extension that was provided for the housekeeping department. Our beds were never made and our floor was swept once during our stay. Our coffee cups were never replenished so we just recycled our kids to go cups from the previous nights dinner. I sincerely do not understand if house keeping is supposed to come in daily or if it has to be requested--but that should either be clarified to the guests upon arrival or corrected with your staff. The pool lining needs to be replaced we noticed this last year, but was still the case this year. The bartender Jess was great. The outdoor furniture also needs to be replaced--some chairs you could not even use because of how broken they were. The lettering on the registration office is falling off. I could go on, but I will stop here because I know the response I will get will most likely be like all the previous ones from "Brett" where he will apologize, say they are working on continuing the improvements, that there is a splash pad coming soon, and that he looks forward to our future return where we can enjoy the improvements. Sorry Brett--but after reading all the previous reviews that have the exact same complaints and still none of the improvements that you state are happening--we will most likely sadly will not be back. As stated in other reviews the BEST part about this hotel is only the location, but that is no longer enough to keep us...
