Theater establishment itself is FINE. (Took my DD to see Live Action "Little Mermaid" in the most expensive theater with the IMAX and the extra bells and whistles and it was a wonderful experience. That said, SKIP THE COCKTAILS!! Just a few weeks ago my friend and I each ordered a drink before going in to see "Ballerina," - we each ordered one of the overpriced barely Jigger poured cocktails. About halfway through the movie, I came out to get refills for both me and my date. Years of bartending to pay the rent in college grad school law school I I'm very well-versed in the rules about serving alcohol the rules - that, clearly this child of an employee did not. I explained to him that he had seen me and my friends each order a drink, could pull up my credit card receipt and simply repeat the order. He came back with some snide remark and so I said :fine, I'm going to order a drink now take it to my friend and then I'll be back to order mine." ( I don't remember the John Wick series and so going to this movie was for my friend, not for me. I didn't want him to miss any.) At this point, this young man who didn't look old enough to drive SNATCHED UP MY DL & CC and disappeared evidently getting a manager, but was gone for 25 minutes!! I know how long he was gone because there was a basketball game playing on the TVs at the little bar area, and I saw virtually the entire last period. I WAS STUCK - without my permission nor without any explanation, he took my driver's license and credit card and disappeared! When he came back, all I wanted to do was get back to my friend alone in the movie theater, so I took my identification and my CC and left. After the movie was over, and it must have been one of their last showings for the evening because less than 15 minutes went by when I realized I did not have my cell phone. Thinking things through, I realized that I must have pulled out my phone to text my friend, I'll learn the theater, and then decided not to do so because his phone was on silent. WE POUNDED ON THE ENTRANCE DOORS, HOLDING UP A NOTE "CELL PHONE INSIDE!" But for the grace of a couple who spent too long in the bathroom, and we were able to slip into the theater when they slipped out, I would not have been able to wail desperately for a manager "MY CELL IS HERE!" As soon as I exclaimed, and exasperation because I use this phone for work and for personal use, that same barely legal to serve alcohol bartender popped his head out and ran away! If my cell phone was left behind, which it was, it was in plain sight and this employee should have turned it into management. HE DID NOT!! HE WAS FIXING TO STEAL MY PHONE. When a manager came, I insisted he confronts this young Thief, and because my phone is for work, it has virtually every sensitive app fingerprint locked. I could see that all three of my banking and credit card apps had been attempted to be opened, as well as my professional and personal email. Thankfully, he couldn't break into anything sensitive. As great as the kop IMAX has been for a very long time, don't go there anymore! If you want the same experience without fear, GO TO any...
Read moreOkay so let's start with Oppenheimer, where we paid through the nose for the IMAX experience, plus the overpriced concessions (OMG!). The sound was not synched, which really really ruined the entire experience, because when your image is that large and the sound so big, it makes a slight glitch like that super glaring and incredibly off putting. I saw several people leave the theater early in the movie, like to did, to complain. But alas, nothing changed. We should have demanded our money back that day, especially since we drove for an hour only to be jacked by this theater.
Here's a completely separate review of our Lord of the Rings re-release experience, which was also incredibly expensive. I understood I was purchasing tickets for an IMAX 4Dx experience, since those words were listed next to the expensive price of admission. Or rather, I misunderstood that the 4Dx experience was in the IMAX and included 3D. So, we arrive we discover it's not in the IMAX and it's not 3D. Instead, we experience the 4Dx phenomenon, which for me was pretty incredible, especially for LOTR. At first, I found the movement of the seats annoying, but once I realized I wasn't going to hurl from motion sickness, I really got into it. For some reason, the 4+ hour Return of the King was the better of 4Dx experiences. They really got the smells and smoke and light flashes down. At one point, the light from the projector shone through the smoke in the room in such a way that brought a whole new level of beauty to the cinematic experience. It's really like a Disney ride, so in that way, I feel the price is warranted. Oh and you get to choose if you want water splashed on you by pushing a button on your armrest. I chose water and had been warned that I needed to keep food and beverages sealed, but I really never felt much water. Again, in the Return of the King, I felt a little more like water hit me, but it was very slight. The most awesome part is when Eowyn defeats the Nazgul by decapitation, I felt a drop of "blood" hit my arm at the precise moment. IT...
Read moreIf you could give this place and it's managment less than one star I would. After hearing Oppenheimer was back and in imax my wife and I bought tickets. The tickets clearly said imax and 4dx under the name of the film.
When we got there, it was not imax. Thinking we'd made a mistake and wanting to avoid it in the future we asked the ticket booth clerk about it. He said we should have known as it was in auditorium 13. How would I know that as a customer? Then he told us imax was the name of the theater and that this happens all of the time. A mistake customers make all of the time seems pretty avoidable if not intentional. I asked to speak to the manager.
The manager explained that this is common and while sympathetic to my wife and I as well as the others that make this mistake on a daily basis, they don't name the theater. Imax 4dx was just a name, not the product we were buying.
As it turns out Oppenheimer was imax for two days, then shown in the regular theater. I went from feeling upset at this point to angered and deceived.
Here you have a theater deceptively naming itself for a product you may or may not be getting, even putting imax and 4dx on e ticket under the name of the film. It became clear that the movie was shown in imax for two days as a marketing ploy to get some buzz going and bring people into the theater whether it was imax or not. Show it two days in imax and then hope to get some more people in by doing what you can to deceive them.
This went from a mistake my wife and I made, to a mistake everyone makes, to a marketing strategy to make sure people think that they are getting imax when they aren't.
Theaters are having problems these days and now I know why. We waited to see this until we could see it in imax and we're tricked into thinking we were. At this point we could have just waited a little longer and seen the film in our home, on our large screen TV, without having to pay $11 for popcorn. I'm not sure when I'll go back to a theater but it certainly won't be the regal imax 4dx in...
