Today, while dining at a restaurant, I had the pleasure of being served by Allen, and I must say his outstanding service left a lasting impression on me. Second time here, and it’s not as great as last time. First, upon entering, the hostess wanted to seat us at the most weird place near the entry, while there were plenty of regular empty seats inside. I don’t get it. It immediately dampened my mood. I almost felt “targeted”. Both my husband and I look decent, properly dressed, so why?

Tonight my husband ordered two typical Shanghai dishes: 1) fried pork chops; 2) stir fried rice cake. Neither tastes authentic—I’m from Shanghai so I know how they should look and taste. But the fried pork chop is of decent portion—it doesn’t taste bad, just not what I expected.

My wonton soup is good, but tonight’s signature soup dumplings taste different—the pork stuffing is a bit too “loose” (it should have a dense texture, like a well-formed meat ball, but soupy loose meat).

Overall, I’m very happy about my dining experience tonight, but I do have two reservations: 1) probably because it’s their soft opening, I find the restaurant a bit chaotic—there are many servers, but some of them are obviously inexperienced; 2) I was told they had a soda machine, but they wouldn’t provide free refill—this is incredibly hard to believe!
