I've been going to this particular PJ for over 25 years. Probably longer than that. This establishment was the former Mont Clare Market for locals and seniors a full service market. Although I have moved out of the immediate area I'd continue to stop and buy fresh produce, flowers, fruits and vegetables. Today my visit has me perplexed. My list was quite short as i only neede a few items. Mango- quite oversized, hard and awkwardly colored green (passed), golden delicious apples- the bag appeared to have contained several bright green ping pong balls (passed), chilean navel oranges nicely sized, right color, satisfying texture...upon peeling.. The orange was dried meaning the fruit was pick at an overly-riped stage or the actual orange tree was NOT PROPERLY hydrated causing the fruit to become malnourished (dryness), the sweet sugar plum.. My daughter and i are mostly satsfied. I am more prone to a darker plum expecting more sweetness but to my surprise the fruit was candied. Lastly the white nectarines appeared to be firm and to offer a crisp bite... The fruit was arranged in a manner that the bruising wss not as transparent causing bitterness. Formally the cashier greeted me with a smile and wanted to charge me an addl $3. Once she seen i simply was not going to handover my hardworking money we "recalculated" and i received a very low toned apology but i had my $3...

OK this was weird: The way you pay is - the cashier uses mental arithmetic to tell you your price, you pay cash, and receive no receipt. So you'd better have things added up on your head before you get up there.I did not know this. Who knows if $22 was really the correct total for what I bought? I asked for an adding machine receipt she said we don't do that. I guess it was correct but ...? On positive side veggies were fresh and not expensive, labelled with country of origin. Good deal on Pistachios vs Wegmans..ps I live 2.5 miles away, won't bother going there again ... time is $ and this was kind of a waste of time/money since flowers died and veggies ok but after special trip just not worth time & money unless buying veggies in bulk. Only a small family ...like costco...unless you need tons of food, just go to a...
Read moreIf you haven't been... Go! Amazing fresh flowers for a fraction, and if you need a last minute host gift or surprise bouquet for a friend, they have all the things you need... Did i mention the produce?? They have things you just don't find, like 2-3 different eggplants! And exotic fruits and specialty mushrooms. Like start shopping there, then do your regular shop for other things elsewhere. You can make amazing fresh meals for less than you would think. I got 3 large bags of lettuce heads, asparagus, zucchini, broccoli, bok choy, napa cabbage, etc for like $22! And their long stem roses were 25 for $16. Like had to split it between 2 vases. Just go - if you drove by and wondered if you should stop, go inside and it will quickly become your...
