In the past, I have rarely had any problems with the cashiers, but today I reached a tipping point from what I observed. There has been a recent hiring of cashiers that are young Latino and Filipino at this location, and that generally doesn't matter, but today I witnessed what looked like flippant racism that I have seen elsewhere by cashiers in this plaza; Home Depot is a perfect example. It may not matter to some, but this event is to me what looked like a slippery slope for future poor behavior. I was standing in line behind three people; one Asian woman paying for her groceries, a black man with two large TVs, and behind him a white young man with a cart of groceries. Next to the line, another lane was opening up and the white man in front of me goes into that lane. There was no attempt by anyone else to move into the lane and he moved at an average pace. I even admitted to myself that he clearly took advantage of an opening lane, which was fair game, and I took the spot behind him, but the black guy who was in front of him prior mumbled "Hey now!" as if something wrong had happened. The cashiers were both Filipino and were then insistent on the black guy being served first, even though the white guy had moved into the lane and asked if they were opening it up. The black guy chuckled at the adamant behavior of the cashiers to allow him to cut two other people in a new line. Ultimately, the black guy declined twice as he realized that he wasn't being treated unfairly; also, the Asian woman ahead of him had just finished paying too. They kept asking "Are you sure?" "Are you sure?" "Because I will serve you first!" as if the customer with the TVs had been wronged and there were some reparations in order. If they had gone through and served a customer from a different line first, I would have advised that young man to talk to management and I might've had a few words myself. Just ridiculous.
At the end of that incident, the Filipina cashiers held an unprofessional attitude about how the white guy didn't respond to their "courteous checkout phrase" that they mumbled while trying to ignore what just happened a few seconds ago, and they kept hissing "he just took his receipt and left."
Altogether, I have been hearing more and more unprofessional conversation at the checkout counters over the past year from the new hires, and unfortunately they have all been younger women; the older Latinas and Asians are professional and courteous. The younger Latina women have unprofessional conversations about sex and dysfunctional relationships as well as their perception of unfair upward mobility in the company; the reason for their slow progression being obvious even to the customers. And now I have seen a new group of Filipina women who have similar conversations and hold attitudes with the customers; including myself.
Now, I have to admit that I am a die-hard Costco fan and it is one of the only American corporations that I love, but this location has suffered recently due to the new hires that they have working the warehouse; primarily the cashiers. Like many reviewers, I have had problems with the employees at this specific Costco location and it disturbs me as I know that Costco has a strong culture of paying well and allowing employees to work their way up to the top (an actual requirement for administrative positions), and it would pain me to see any of the recent customer service representatives make it to the top of the company. That may lead to a quick decline in the value that Costco offers and the service that has made it the best place around.
When it comes to asking general employees around the store where I might be able to find an item, it usually ends up being hit or miss. The hits are curt responses to my queries, which are usually accurate. The misses are downright rude customer neglect or "I don't know." responses.
Costco needs to fix these problems with better training for their employees. They should know the policies and how to behave...
Read moreThis location is bad. The woman who helped me at the desk, Marcella, was condescending, took papers out of my hands as I reviewed them, and grabbed my phone out of my hand at one point.
She asked me if I wanted the executive membership and credit card for a $50 gift card I told her I wasnât interested in a credit card. She proceeded to spend the next two minutes refusing to take no for an answer, telling me that I could refund the executive for a base membership and cancel my credit card (a dumb thing to say). After finally agreeing to apply for the credit card to get the gift card she pulled the membership and credit card papers out of my hands when I was reviewing the documents.
After paying $120 and applying for a credit card Marcella then told me to install the Costco app on my phone. At this point a huge line of 10+ people were waiting for the service desk and she wanted me to do that. I told her I could do it later and she insisted I do it now, saying that it would be best to do it now to confirm it works. Iâm not a child and felt disrespected being told I donât know how my phone works. I agreed to download and log in but when attempting to log in it told me to create an account, but it then told me one existed, which I told her. She repeated incorrectly that I should just âhit the log inâ and I told her it wasnât working. After about 3-4 minutes of this her supervisor came by and they asked about âthe email.â It was at this point Marcella said âyes I told them about the emailâ which was a complete lie, and disrespectfully asked if I had checked like she had said to, another lie. I told her no and then told her my email wasnât working, at which point she WITHOUT ASKING grabbed my phone out of my hands and changed apps to my email without my permission. I will never return to this Costco, other than to return my membership entirely. I will shop at smart and final, grocery outlet, anywhere other than...
Read moreI love Costco. Walking into the store, I'm immediately greeted by the familiar sights and sounds of a shopping paradise. From the towering shelves filled with giant bags of chips and snacks to the rows of bulk-sized household items, everything at Costco seems designed to make my life easier.
One of the things I appreciate most about Costco is the quality of their products. Whether it's fresh produce, meat, or bakery items, I always feel confident in the quality of the items I'm purchasing. The store's commitment to high-quality products, combined with their competitive pricing, makes it an unbeatable value.
Another thing I love about Costco is the sense of community that comes with being a member. Whether I'm chatting with other shoppers in the checkout line or browsing the latest Costco magazine, there's always a sense of shared experience and camaraderie that makes me feel like I'm part of something special.
But perhaps the best thing about Costco is the sheer variety of items available. From clothing and electronics to furniture and appliances, there's always something new and exciting to discover. And with their ever-changing selection of seasonal items and special deals, there's always a reason to come back and see what's new.
In short, I absolutely love Costco. It's a shopping experience like no other, filled with great products, great deals, and a sense of community that makes it feel like home. If you haven't checked out Costco yet, I highly recommend it. You won't be...
