I was pleasantly surprised by this trip... It was a bright, sunny day and 55 degrees on Dec 26. The Captain was very careful to give the smoothest possible ride for the "non-seafairing" types.. (I have my own boat and know the local seas well). That being said, I think there should be a sign in the bathrooms to NOT throw up into the sinks, but to use the toilet. Going in after 3 or 4 other passengers had done that made my son so ill that HE ended up throwing up just from the sight and smell. Also, we are not at Disneyland, and asking $9 for 4x6 print of you getting on the boat is a bit much. Now for or the good parts.. the seas were actually quite calm for this time of year, and as I said above, the skipper did a great job of keeping the ship in that aspect for comfort of the passengers. The two crew personnel in the concession were very pleasant, quick at their jobs, the food appeared good, and the drinks were cold. The one crew person in charge of keeping us informed about whales was very knowledgeable about their habits and features, regulations for observing them, continued her banter in a very professional and educating manner. The skipper was adept at maneuvering a large vessel in a manner that would not harm the sea life intentionally. He even kept the boat out maybe a half hour longer than required to make sure we got our money's worth of whale watching time... and it was worth it Overall, I would have given this cruise 5 stars were it not for the bathroom situation, which to be fair, the crew at that moment had little control over. I would definitely do it again, and want to thank the entire crew for a...
Read moreWent out yesterday morning (12 Aug 2013) on the 0800-1200 trip. Boat was pretty packed for a Monday, but, we were still hopefully that the captain would set an appropriate drift so there wouldn't be 10 way tangles. Our worst fears on this short 4 hour charter were realized when it was announced after we left the inlet that we had about an hour drive time before we could drop line... For hells sake, the trip is only 4 hours, you have just cut my fishing down to 2 hours max...
75 minutes later we arrive in the channel at the mouth of the bay and were given the go ahead to drop line. After only 6 minutes... I kid you not, I was timing at this point, we had to reel in and reset the drift. 15 minutes later we were set and dropped line again. This happened quite a bit, the move time was greater than 15 minutes occasionally. All that having been said, between the time it takes to get to their "spot" and the circling the captain does to get us on the "fish" the four hour charter consisted of about 80 minutes of fishing.... Very disappointing.
Luckily the fish were biting and we did manage to catch more than just our neighbors line. But, by the time we got a couple pulled in it was time to move.
The mates were very inexperienced. Bent 3 of my hooks ( I brought my own gear, you certainly do not have to, they provide everything you need) and threw back my one flounder that was easily over limit if they had bothered to flatten the fish while measuring instead of measuring it bent over itself.
So $38 less in the wallet and a fishing charter company that I tell everyone I know to stay the...
Read moreWell, we called on a Monday afternoon to see if we had been booked for a trip yet and were told they were working on it. We knew that if we didn't hear by 7:00pm (when they close), we wouldn't be booked on a trip the next day. We left our phones at home and enjoyed an evening unplugged. Upon waking this morning, we had a message left after 7:00pm (after closing time) saying we had a trip booked for that morning. We called as a courtesy (so that no one was waiting for us) since we never confirmed that we could come, to say we would like to try to go out on another trip later in they day or later in the week. We were promptly told that our credit card had already been charged and that the call, after business hours, WAS the confirmation- without ever hearing from us that we could come. The person we spoke to was very defensive, and refused to try to get us on another trip. Full amount charged to our credit card and no trip. Be very careful with this company! Everyone I've talked to says this sounds like a way of being able to get money for a trip that they know, most likely, won't happen. We had no way of calling to confirm or say we couldn't go since we were called after hours- no one would have been there to get our call... Which is exactly what we were told. "We made they call to you and will not sit around waiting for a call back- you were charged because we told you when you were booked"- AFTER BUSINESS HOURS! This is no way to run a company, and they know it. DO NOT fish with...
