I stayed here back in 2002 and I was excited to return... until I did. I was greeted with a lazy “wah-sup?”, and elevator that doesn’t work. The one working elevator takes forever to transport guests. I’d be happy to take the stairs if I wasn’t on the six floor, the carpets are definitely aged, I’m not sure what is the deal with the walls, or the counter in the bathroom, or the toilet doesn’t properly flush, and don’t get me started on the dirty bathtub. I’m not even sure who would sit in one of these bathtubs, because in the picture you can see hair and mold, and I can assure you that hair is not mine since it was there before I even used the shower. Mold kills by the way... it’s dangerous. The walls are thin with “shared doors” that are great until a whiney kid is on the other side of it and the parents do nothing to shut it up. That could happen in any hotel though. The main hallway outside of the room door is missing panels, so you have full access to outside with your hands. Bugs are flying in to get to the lights. It is like walking through a gnat jungle. I don’t think that is the way that it is supposed to be, but it isn’t fixed so maybe it is a jungle experience the Ramada includes in your room rate, who knows. I’ll get a photo of that later. The bed has grooves in the two sides so it’s like laying on uneven ground towards the middle. One of the good things about being able to leave a review, is the ability to show photos of how the rooms “really look“ instead of those professional photos. I wish that I would have been able to see photos like the ones that I am posting here, because I would not have stayed here. Thankfully it is only one night, otherwise I think I would have cut my losses and gone elsewhere. Oh, and the lazy “Whas-up?” employee informed me that it was two dollars to wash clothes here which is highway robbery. Of course when I went to the floor to wash my laundry I was short because he didn’t tell me the right amount. It is actually $2.25 or $2.50 depending on what cycle you want to use. So it would have been nice if I would’ve known that so I would not have needed to wait for the elevator for over 10 damn minutes to get back to my room. I have met a few other guests staying here during my long journeys on the elevator and while waiting for the elevator, and it sounds like they have the same issues in their room. It would be interesting to see photos from them as well. I told them they can do that here. I won’t be back to this location. I need a decontamination chamber once I leave. Filthy walls, lamps, counters, bathtub. Perhaps a shot of penicillin....
Read moreMet friends at the restaurant Mahi Mahs for lunch and drinks during ECSC. Great time eating in the outside section. Great views of the oceanfront and the boardwalk from inside as well as outside. Great sushi! Now the not so great. Our family has used Mahi Mahs as our go to spot at the oceanfront for many years. The calamari use to be great with a spicy sweet dipping sauce. Awesome fish tacos and an incredible deal in November and December where you could buy a gift card and get one free. The free one had to be used by mid May. The first time we ate there this year, after we finished our lunch, we were told that ownership had changed and they no longer accept the free gift certificates. I had the manager come out and explained that we were on our way to Catch 31 to eat lunch ( where they also accept the certificates) and stopped at Mahi Mahs to save driving the extra 20 or so blocks and we ordered way more food than we would have because of the certificates that we bought at Mahi Mahs just 4 months before... He then offered us 10% off the meal and said we could still use our certificates at one of the other restaurants that still accepted them. I explained that that if we had been told that they no longer accepted the certificates before we ordered, we would have gone to Catch 31 like we had originally planned and that I expect him to honor the certificates as now it was April and I didn't know if we would get back to the oceanfront in time to use the certificates at one of the other restaurants. The manager literally slammed his hand on our table to where our silverware clanked and said "ok but don't bring anymore certificates here again". New ownership must have really pressed the staff hard about these certificates to bring about such a reaction. Hereto, the menu has changed for the worst... The calamari is no longer very good and they don't have that great dipping sauce anymore and the quality of some of the things we ate was not up to par with what it once was. In closing, Mahi Mahs has a great location with a good setup and really good views. Someone who has not been eating there for over 20 years would probably find something that they liked on the menu. Just very disappointing for us locals who know what it used to be. The sushi was...
Read moreLoved the maids, they were phenomenal. The rooms were ok... could tell it was a rush job go get it open for the final Virginia beach hurrah. Was really annoyed when I booked thru travelocity and booked king suites, called the day of arrival to make sure all was good was told yes maam 2 king suites on the 6th floor. Got checked in, got all our stuff for our 3 night stay and went up to the room, opened the door and shut it right back up. Had my mom stay with the luggage went downstairs and told them that they gave me a 2 double bed room. Was told that because I booked thru a 3rd party site they never guarantee the beds,(managers words) it was a run of the house one. I DID NOT book run of the house option because I wanted a king bed and I told them I've NEVER had that problem before in all the years I've been doing that. I frequently visited the Ramada that this place replaced, it was our go to spot for a couple years just about every other month. Reused the old sliding doors from ramada ,ok understandable, but could you of atleast replaced the locking hardware since it was corroded and stuck all the time. Carpet and hard floors, cute but unless the carpet is thicker or the same height as the hard floor, not recommended. Hurt like hell in the middle of the night to get up to go to the bathroom and stepping on the seam. I guess that's better than the broken screw my parents found in their room tho. What ecofriendly idiot came up with the sensor ac unit?? Sounds like a great plan but made it miserable to come back to the hotel room after being in the humidity and heat to a room the same way because every 2 hours if it doesn't sense movement it shuts off. Dude! I woke up in a pile of sweat because we didn't move enough in our sleep to keep the ac on!! Not cool!! (No pun intended) Reused the bathtub, no biggy, but quality painting of the tub goes along way. Looked bad. The reminence of the plaster to keep the tiles up in the bathroom on the wall was not cleaned all off. The wallpaper was already peeling in spots and it's only been open for less than 2 weeks. By the way the back door locks at like 9 and theres no sign stating it does. Not real sure if I'll be returning to...
