I've only been here for the Friday Jazz Nights, so I can't speak to the services or other community events. For $5, this is one of the best jazz deals in town. The program lasts for 3 hours with 2 intermissions between sets. The crowd tends to skew mostly older and there is definitely a sense of community among some of the attendees, but, as an outsider, I've been allowed to keep entirely to myself for the entirety of the program. The acoustics aren't awesome and the seating is non-folding auditorium style seating (with some benches somewhat perpendicular to the rest of the seating), but the music that I've heard here has been very good. Food is served downstairs and people will bring food up to eat during the performance. Air-conditioning has been fine when I've visited. There's a parking lot, several bike racks, and, of course, the nearby Metro to...
Read moreI have been going to Jazz Nights at Westminster for over a decade. It's a great place to hear the best jazz artists from the DMV. I have also been to Blues Night which is also awesome. And, you can't beat the price, $10 for 3 hours of great music. They also serve fried fish and sides in the basement. The fish is as good as that served at the old Horace and Dickies on 12th street! There aren't many places you can go in DC and get dinner and music for about $30, but Westminster delivers. It's a laid-back vibe until the music starts popping and people jump into the aisles to dance. The event is in a church, so there is no alcohol served but that has never hindered the fun. I recommend this for an off the beaten path adventure while visiting DC, or a night out with friends if you're...
Read moreThe best place to listen to live jazz is at Southwest's Westminster Presbyterian Church. Pulling in local jazz bands, they host Friday jazz nights in the sanctuary every Friday from 6-9pm. It's $10 cash or credit card. In the basement is a buffet of sea food like crab cakes and more. They host Blues every Monday too!
Outside of the Friday and Monday concerts, the congregation has a long legacy in the city and in Southwest. They started in 1853 and help...
