We stayed at this hotel for 10 days and were really happy with our stay. Check in was easy and our room was clean & comfortable - we opted for a room on 6th floor with a view of the Capitol building (would highly recommend as the Capitol lights at night are amazing & there is less traffic noise). The staff were very friendly and eager to help, nothing was too much to ask. To get into the city itself was a 15 minute walk or a 3 minute Uber ride. The area around the hotel is developing with plenty of high rise apartments shooting up & plus there is a big park across the road from the lobby you can go into. Navy Yard is a 10 minute walk and worth visiting for a nice meal. The bar is a really nice area of the hotel as it has nice comfy chairs, a cool bar atmosphere and plenty of drinks and cocktails to choose from. We came down here most evenings. Artem the bartender was really friendly and was chatting to all the customers. ||||If I were to find fault with the hotel it probably just needs a bit of updating on the inside as the rooms are quite dark, but apart from that we really enjoyed our stay and would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to visit DC. ||||To get to this hotel from Dulles International Airport we used the Uber app, it cost us $45 including tip. Uber is a really easy way to order taxi's around the city, just make sure you're getting a reputable driver and check the license plate before you enter a car. ||||The hotel has an underground car park which is available to guests - not sure what a long term stay rate is but we used it for one day and were charged about $40. ||||Finally I've included some additional amenities below that the hotel provides that I thought were really good for guests to avail of:||-Free shuttle into the city from 7-10am (this runs regularly)||-Complimentary morning coffee in Lapidus restaurant||-Happy hour is from 4-7pm in bar ($4 Stella/$6 cocktails)||-You can order a meal from the bar||-Hair dryer/ironing board/iron included in room||-Dry cleaning service||-There is a shop in the hotel lobby for snacks & drinks||-There is an ATM in the lobby||-The outdoor pool looks amazing (as we visited in Feb it was closed but in the summer I imagine its a great...
Read moreThis hotel is fairly well worn and a bit dated, but in a charming way. Little details that a name brand would be all over seem like they can go unnoticed here. One example, the safe in my room was broken, but easily fixable. I'm sure a call to the desk would have taken care of that, but I didn't travel with the my expensive heirlooms on this trip, so I didn't think to prompt that action. Or, the shower drain was just a bit slow, which would also be easily fixable. Again, not painful enough to act on. I noticed a few minor details like that in my short stay but they didn't make a difference, one way or the other.
Overall, the rooms are big and the beds comfortable. The pool and pool area is really quite nice (my kids lasted 90 minutes in one of the Smithsonian's before asking to go back to the pool). It has a bit of a resort vibe to it.
The food and drink selection and quality at the Morris Lounge wasn't bad, although it wasn't especially good. The breakfast buffet, in the Lapidus restaurant, however, was pretty good.
One thing that caught me was how the room rate was presented on the various hotel search websites. Where they market the rate at a massive discount (in my case, 65%+), you're really just getting the going rate. As I was checking in, someone walked in off the street, asked a clerk if they had any vacant rooms, and was immediately presented a rate that was within a few bucks off my 'highly discounted' rate. That's probably the way it goes at virtually every hotel, but that was the first time in all my travels that I had it spelled out in those specific terms. To be fair, I don't read the fine print, or most of the large print, on those sites, so maybe my expectation is off. Whatever the case, the room rate was better than most in the area, and turned out to be a good value.
Overall, it was a good experience and I'd...
Read moreAlthough, the hotel is well kept, it does have an old feel to it and even that old hotel smell. However, the per-night cost as well as the location of this hotel make it a "good bang for your buck"
Now, do not expect to get a good night sleep as the mattress is rather cheap and the mattress topper is really lumpy. So waking-up with a little back pain is something to be expected.
I stayed here for three days and every single day the breakfast was the same, there was absolutely no difference. I wish I can say that the breakfast was flavorful and taste everyday, but sadly it was not. It was the same bland frozen home-fries, frozen turkey and pork sausage and bagged scrambled eggs. I would highly recommend that management look at more healthy options and use less FROZEN FOODS.
They do offer morning complementary shuttle service to the capital, but sadly the timing is very limiting, 10:30am is the last shuttle. There is also no evening pick-up which is something that they should add.
The desk and housekeeping, staff is very helpful and friendly, even though they have very little say. I asked for a razor, and the housekeeper needed to go to the manager. When the manager arrived a few minutes later he said he would get me one, but two days later still no shaving razor.
Again, if you are traveling to DC on a budget, this is a good place to stay as the only cheaper option...
