Live Star Bar Banquet Hall Inc — Attraction in Waukegan

I do not recommend the Live Star Banquet Hall. My daughter and I booked this establishment for her grad school / master’s graduation party. The price was reasonable; the hall was perfect in size, and pleasant to the eye. With the owners, we discussed what we were seeking, and they explained what they would provide and what was expected of us. We signed a contract. During our discussion, we were told that the room would not be open to the public. Additionally, we requested and were told that the fiesta décor would be removed from the room, and that the televisions would be turned off. And lastly, we had selected a cash bar and was told that a pitcher of water would be placed at each table. We did not select to have the establishment cater for the event because we did not want a Mexican menu, thus we catered the event ourselves.

This is what happened. Event day, the hall still had the fiesta décor which clashed with our decorations. The televisions were on and showing Telemundo. The establishment did not provide water, and when asked about this, they quoted the price of $3 a pitcher. I reminded them of our discussion, and that they said they would provide water. The owner said, “your contract doesn’t say water is free,” I said that is correct. The contract doesn’t mention water at all; however, verbally you said you would provide it. The owner said, “yes, we will, for $3 a pitcher.” And so, we purchased water at $3 a pitcher. One thing that our contract did mention is that we had to bring everything we needed for our outside catering. We, however, failed to bring a cake slicer for the extravagant graduation cake. I asked if we could use one of theirs, the owner replied, “no you were supposed to bring your own.” I found this to be petty and unreasonable. I ran out to the store to buy a cake knife. Additionally, the hall was open to the public. Strangers invaded our space coming and going, in and out, to the bar and to the slots. If this wasn’t enough, shots cost $10…really. Lastly, there was an event in the adjacent room, that party had catered through the establishment, and their staff walked through our event, which was off the kitchen, to provide food for the other party. Absolutely love this place. We come every weekend and the atmosphere is great. We enjoy dancing and Kareoke nights. I celebrated my birthday last night and it was such a great time. Family and friends had a wonderful time. Armando was so attentive to all our needs. His wife Carmen is also very helpful, they are very professional. Always checking in on everyone. I brought some friends, and we had an incredible experience. The food was outstanding — especially the tacos and enchiladas, which were packed with flavor and cooked perfectly.
