LA Taqueria is a gem in Wausau, WI ! My daughter and I visited LA Taqueria for lunch on a Saturday and our meal togethercame to about $30, reasonable to me. The smells wafting through the parking lot gave me an indication of the meal that awaited me! I also have seen the place consistently quite busy, so this indicates to me how well liked it is by others. This is a more fast food feel when ordering, but with a slow dining taste experience. There was a great variety to the menu, with what seemed to be more authentic Mexican food favorites. I ordered a Keto bowl with ground beef, tortilla chips with salsa, and Mexican street corn. The Keto bowl was a large portion, with lettuce, grilled fajita veggies, guacamole, sour cream, pico, and shredded cheese. The presentation was attractive, each part of the bowl separately dished, so not all mixed together. I added my salsa, mixed my ingredients, and scooped it up with my chips. Delicious!! It was a fantastic meal! The street corn was also fantastic! I added it to my leftovers and ate it with them the next meal of the da... I would add the street corn to my bowl next time! What a great meal! The atmosphere is colorful and beautiful, very bright with huge windows to let in much natural light.. very inviting! I can't wait to eat outside in the warmer months! Great experience, as...
Read moreI'm a foodie at heart and Mexican Cuisine is at the top of that list! Wisconsin food has left me less than impressed especially when it comes to Mexican cuisine, however La Taqueria has definitely earned the top spot on my must stop locations when in the area. We ordered the following: Barbacoa Bowl, 4 street tacos Mexican style (2 Pastor, Chorizo and Barbacoa) Elote, chips with salsa and queso with chorizo along with 2 large sodas, our total was $50.30 which too us is a lot of food for the money. Everything was really good; my only complaints were the tortilla used for my tacos almost appeared to be wheat based instead of the flower or corn tortillas I'm used to and the chorizo queso was way more chorizo than queso (weird problem to have as usually it's the opposite) but the employee at the counter was more than happy to add more queso to the cup. As far as the ambiance, the place was clean and staff was welcoming and ordering and receiving your food at the counter kept things moving. All in all, the food was amazing from the Elote (which was perfectly balanced as far as corn to mayo/cheese/Chile powder ratio as opposed to the usual of more corn than anything) to the Tacos. We will definitely be back. (Took one star off due to the Barbacoa didn't have allot of flavor and the tortillas used for the...
Read moreAs a native Texan, I went in off a friend's recommendation not expecting what I'm used to as far as "street tacos" go. I'm used to the food truck outside the gas station type function. The staff was great and they know what they're doing. But I was upset when I ordered what I'm used to getting and paid 2-3 times as much for it. I got 2 bistec tacos, 2 al pastor, 1 veggie taco, and an order of fried jalapenos, chips and quac, and a large cucumber marg. The pastor was too sweet for my liking where the traditional spice and pepper flavor is usually more balanced. The steak tacos could use some seasoning on its own but were nothing crazy either way. The marg was great and I housed the food I got after a long day of driving. But my pockets pain outweighs my tummy's pleasure. I would still recommend this place to any local friends but can't say with confidence I'll make it back soon. The spicy shrimp plate caught my...
