I've been here twice. The first time was Halloween 2022 and it was maybe 200ppl and a great night. The second time was Friday 7/21/23 for a sold out concert on a heat wave weekend. The place was incredibly over packed in most places and the HVAC obviously couldn't handle it.
The MAIN PROBLEM was that one of the staff members/security team assaulted a woman right in front of me, her boyfriend, and many others. For crossing over a tape line on the ground, this staff member visibly lost their temper and pushed themselves several feet into the crowd while screaming "STAY BEHIND THE LINE" and pushing multiple people who were 3-4ft behind the line. He was obviously in a terrible mood all night as my friends and others noted before the show even began. He crossed a metaphorical line when he, after jumping over the physical line to push people, stepped back and then put two big steps forward, put his hand on a woman's shoulder, and shoved her so hard she would have gone to the ground if she didn't hit crowd members several feet behind her.
Immediately after witnessing this, her boyfriend and I brought this to the attention of the security lead and any staff member we could find. I have never in my life seen someone get manhandled by a staff member at a concert like that unless that person was belligerently intoxicated or violent. This woman was neither, and also maybe 100lbs. I'm 34 and have been to maybe 100 concerts in my life. I was disgusted.
It took maybe 30min to finally get the actual Manager on site, Charlie (although one specific security team head was somewhat helpful). Charlie listened to our complaints and by the second set (there was an intermission/set break) that staff member was gone for the rest of the night.
Our main frustration came from being brushed off when we had just witnessed this man physically attack a woman, getting mostly "We'll talk to him" while he continued to scream at crowd members. We were afraid he would hurt someone in a much more serious way.
I'm leaving this review because I tried calling for an update but the listed phone number here is out of service. I have never in my life desired to see someone lose their job but this situation was so viscerally wrong that it crossed that line for me. I hope if that staff member wasn't fired they have been put on probation of some sort, because they do not have the temperament to be working in live music crowd control and someone WILL get hurt by him.
Overall, it felt like the venue was VERY oversold or overpacked. If The Roxy didn't cram extra people in, then its an even worse story, because they seemingly couldn't handle the crowd size at their listed capacity of 500ppl. Other security guards were shoving people out of the way of barbacks (while the barbacks themselves never asked for it and were incredibly polite and patient while running supplies) and this was not the only terrible (and physical) interaction I saw with the crowd being harassed that night.
It eventually calmed down in the later half of the night but obviously left a bad taste in many of our mouths.
It was likely a combination of MANY factors, but that staff member was the person I saw SNAP in real time and take it out on a crowd member and I do not feel comfortable going back to the Roxy any time soon. I hope to hear an update from the boyfriend and/or here on Google and will update the rating if I hear they...

That being said Me and my girlfriend was enjoying the LA Pride Parade on Santa Monica Blvd. we decided to head up to Sunset blvd around 5pm I ran into a store down the road while my girlfriend decided to try and get a drink for us in the bar up the road named "Roxy" Ive never been in this place but have seen it plenty As I'm walking up the road towards "Roxy" I see two grown 6 foot 3, 200 lb men carrying her by each arm out the front door. (she is 93lbs and tiny) They threw her on the ground and repeatedly punched her in the face that I witnessed I ran up there pushed the man off her and was about to fight this guy but the manager ran out and said that she was not allowed inside before 6pm even though the doors were wide open. She was crying on the ground with 2 black eyes and a cut under her eye bleeding all over the place. I called LAPD and 10 min later 2 officers arrived not looking like they wanted to deal with anything (Public Servants should care if a citizen is Crying and bleeding on the ground) they walked up to me which i was yelling at the manager that the is unacceptable. the officers separated us and questioned my girlfriend she told them that she walked up to the bar asked for a drink the bartender refused to serve her so she turned around to leave when two men (one Black man with long dreads and a skinny white guy with tattoos and piercings) picked her up and carried her out. I refused to let the cops just wave this off and asked them if this how LA works if a law abiding citizen can just be thrown down and beat up by workers in a club then its alright. ITS ASSAULT AND BATTERY. If i didn't show up when i did i don't know what they would have done to her. This morning you can really tell the damage to her she looks like she was hit by a car both her eyes are black and blue and she is scarred under her eye from the cut. THIS IS DISTURBING AND DISGUSTING !! so just a FOREWARNING to anyone you bring there don't let them get too drunk cause the place wasn't even open and they were perfectly fine beating a girl... I WILL NEVER STEP FOOT IN THIS...
Read moreI saw one of my favorite bands at The Roxy a few weeks ago and I can honestly say that the entire experience would have been much more enjoyable ANYWHERE else. The bouncers are extremely rude and pushy, first of all. The guy yelled at us from the very front of the line, expecting us to hear what he was saying and then got upset when he got to us and we had no idea what was going on. Both I and the friend I went with are under 21, and we had no idea that we would be charged a "beverage fee" before going inside. I think the policy itself is completely ridiculous, especially since people over 21 just have to show their IDs and then buy drinks only if they want them. What's even more ridiculous is the fact that there was nothing, anywhere, on any email I received or on the ticket itself, that said we were going to have to pay another fee. When I challenged the bouncer on this, he replied, "it's on our website." Thank god I had my wallet on me, otherwise we would have been in trouble. What kind of owners expect every customer to visit their website and read all the fine print on the page marked "tickets," when they already have their tickets?!? It's so completely unnecessary to charge people even more just because they aren't old enough to buy alcohol, and then completely stupid to "hide" it from them until the day of the show. If you must charge, charge everybody, and include it as a service fee in the ticket purchase. Inside, the place was extremely worn down and desperately in need of an upgraded sound system. The music basically turned to mush. I've seen lots of live music, and this was by far the trashiest sounding venue I've ever been to. It made Anberlin sound like it was being shoved through a garbage disposal. Whatever the historical appeal about this place is, I'm definitely not feeling it and I won't be...
