This is about 5 blocks from our house so we stopped in. I noticed two things — there were only 3 cars in the lot — a Rolls Royce, a Porsche, and a Lambo SUV. I now realize that one or all of these cars must belong to the owners. After crossing an empty dusty gravel lot (no signs, no help), we found a dark circus tent full of trees. It was stacked full of trees, like they hadn’t sold a single one. We found a nice 7-8 foot something or other fir, but there were no price tags. A helpful employee emerged from the back of the tent, and asked us what size we wanted. He showed us a few, and then I asked “How much?” He said, “$325, and the stand is another $65.” (It was a standard green made in China stand, $12 at Home Depot). We thanked him (he was polite and said goodbye) and ended up at — ugh — Home Depot. We bought a tree at Mr Jingles last year and was expensive and dry and turned yellow. It’s the third time in 5 years we’ve resorted to Home Depot, and gotta say, the parking is insane, paying is inconvenient, but they sell very good tree. I remember when tree lots supported local charities. In the 1990s, our tree lot in Silver Lake was run by our local Fire Department station house and benefited our local elementary school. Another nearby lot was run by a local parish church. I know it’s naive to think that the City of LA would ever do anything to stand in the way of unbridled capitalism. If I knew the young man trying to sell us a tree was getting a decent commission, or if a third of my purchase would go to Children’s Hospital a few miles down Sunset, then maybe I’d pay $350 for a tree. I know about the drought and shortage. Home Depot was almost picked clean by the time we got there ($125 total for tree and stand and tax) for a nicer tree than what we saw at this place. Greentrees was empty, by the way. Only one other customer and he was getting in his car empty-handed. Anyway,...
Read moreI will never again buy a tree from these people. After punching my 4th tree with Mr Greentrees, I thought I would be okay since my last 4 was amazing. Last years tree died a week before Christmas and their “customer service” was awful! No options besides buying another tree at full price! I told this story to another tree park a block away and they gave me a discount just due to the fact that they felt bad and that Mr Greentrees gave their line of business a bad name. Also, allowing them to put the tree on my roof scratched the...
Read moreSo if you’re looking to spend $400+ bucks on a tree this is the place. When we arrived (a month before Christmas) most trees had already been claimed. The folks working there are semi nice and assisted when asked but they’re not clear on letting you know the price tag before you find one you like. For a 7 ft tree it ended up being $480 bucks (includes a $60 delivery fee). Super expensive and we won’t be going back for that reason. The tree is wonderful and smells great though, just not worth...
