||||||When arriving at the beautiful 850 West Hollywood Hotel we were shown to our room and that's when I noticed that we where in the wrong room type. I proceeded to talk with reception to explain that we were in wrong room but to my surprise we were informed this was the correct room. I said no, our room has a balcony with views of the city and that was the primary reason that I booked this hotel (as per booking. com room description). Reception told us that our room type (Deluxe King Room) didn't all have city views and that they don't have any available that do have city views left, I was totally gutted as this was a special occasion booking and the views was everything, the Los Angeles skyline. I also spoke to the manager but again was told they were fully booked. Not only did the room given to us not have the views but this rooms view was the bushes and the neighbours scaffolded walls. All our windows were frosted glass so we couldn't even see out of the windows at all either, felt very claustrophobic in the room. The balcony was the width of a single chair and not a comfortable environment due to terrible view of bushes, walls, scaffolding, dust and the loud construction works going on next door. The construction work was very loud and intolerable and at no point during booking or check in were we informed of these works. Being on the second floor there is obviously people in the room above and hearing them is not unusual, however the insulation is really bad so it was like being under a classroom of stomping children. Windows didn't close properly either so noise was always a constant either from building works, street noise or traffic. In summary the room was a claustrophobic box, stomping noises from ceiling, outside noise, opaque windows and a tiny balcony surrounded with bushes, scaffolding and workmen using jackhammers. |||Our booking included breakfast as per description, this turned out to be a continental breakfast, I use the word continental loosely. Breakfast was a pastry, orange juice or coffee with one cereal choice that was the same everyday. This is not acceptable to be called breakfast of any description. We therefore had to eat and pay outside the property, an expense that we didn't budget for.|||After checking out we were charged a resort fee that they didn't tell us about, I only realised they had charged this after I got an alert from my credit card. I had to return to them and explain I had already paid all monies for my stay via booking.com. , once they had double checked our booking they refunded this ||In conclusion, our 3 night stay in West Hollywood was completely ruined due to not receiving the room we saw advertised and being out of pocket paying for proper breakfasts. I would like to say that the manager Virginia is a lovely person and made us feel very welcome and is to be...
Read moreWe were really looking forward to our stay at Hotel 850 SVB, but unfortunately, it turned into a complete disaster. When we checked into our room, we were greeted by an extremely loud humming noise, likely from a broken air conditioner, even though it was turned off. The night porter was the only person who actually tried to help, but despite his efforts, he couldn’t fix the issue. tried to fix it but failed after a lot of back and forth. After a lot of back and forth, we had no choice but to pack up all our belongings and switch rooms at 1:15 AM (!!). The second room wasn’t much better—the humming noise was still audible, though slightly quieter.
Just as we were finally trying to rest, we were woken up at 8 AM by loud hammering from a construction site right next to our room. When we complained and asked for the night to be refunded and to leave early, the hotel insisted we still pay for the night. Their so-called “compromise” was to let us leave without charging for the remaining nights. That’s not a compromise—that’s ridiculous! Why should we pay for a night where we couldn’t sleep, had to move rooms in the middle of the night, and were woken up by hammering?
To make matters worse, the hotel manager was “unavailable,” so we couldn’t speak to him directly. Strangely, the porter and booking.com were somehow able to reach him. While my husband was on the phone with booking.com to resolve the issue and get a refund for the first night, I was loading heavy suitcases into our car. The porter just stood there watching me struggle without offering any assistance or even pretending to care. When I confronted him, he claimed he wasn’t allowed to leave the desk, even though he had just disappeared into another room moments earlier! He could’ve at least called someone to help. Unacceptable.
To top it off, I found hairs in the bathroom, so cleanliness was also not up to standard. We travel frequently, and this is one of the worst experiences we’ve had in years. We’re now wasting half a day transferring to another hotel and have opened a claim through booking.com to get our refund. Absolutely would NOT recommend this place to anyone (and I...
Read moreI stayed at this hotel over the weekend and absolutely adored it. Very nice hotel.
Check-in was smooth and easy, and the person at the front desk was lovely. My room was beautiful: I selected the “comfortable” level, and it was beautifully furnished, spacious and clean. There was a fireplace and a balcony, both of which I made time to use bc they were so cozy. The bathroom was spacious and clean (although I did ask for them to wipe down the counter a bit more thoroughly). The shower was divine. The closet spacious enough for all my clothing.
My favorite aspect of my room was the fireplace, which was easy to use and I turned on any time I was in my room.
They serve a lovely little continental breakfast with pastries, fruits, juice and coffee (they even have oat milk!). Enough to hold me over till brunch.
The only thing I’d warn people about is that this hotel is relatively close to a hospital, so emergency trucks sometimes run their sirens at night. Probs not a big deal if you live in a noisy city and you’re used to it, but I definitely had to pop my earplugs in at night.
Other than that, I highly...
