Teddy Baldassarre — Attraction in Westlake

I’ve bought several watches from the Teddy Baldassarre online store over the last couple of years. Watches ranging from GShock to Omega. They always do a really great job in providing fast fulfillment and all my watches have arrived safely packaged and without any problems. Their growth, with new brands all the time and a brand-new brick and mortar store, has been awesome to watch. Congratulations Teddy team!

For my last few watch purchases I have been working with a Teddy rep named Wil Bethune. Wil is a real pro. He is knowledgeable and enthusiastic about watches, and just a good guy. He reached out to me a few months back to quiz me about my collection and plans, which was an appreciated personal touch. In the runup to their Omega launch I hassled him quite a few times about my options and he would always take the time to chat as I bounced from model to model.

I chose the Hesalite Speedmaster on the bracelet for my first Omega, and I am really happy with my choice. There isn’t a whole lot that I can add to the conversation for such a legendary watch. It has the coolest history of any time piece. And every iteration has been reviewed by every watch publication ever. So, I’ll keep my review brief: The Speedmaster really is a perfect watch. It’s gorgeous. Its look and feel lives up to its legend. It has a lot of presence but is very wearable. The accuracy is insane - my Speedmaster has gained less than one second a day so far. The bracelet is beautiful, robust, and comfortable. The precise manufacturing is obvious when operating the crown or pushers – everything feels tight and solid.

And a couple of considerations if you’re thinking about this watch: Omega puts some thread locking compound on the little bracelet screws and they are difficult to break loose. Set up a good workspace and take your time. The Hesalite does scratch. I’ve scuffed mine a little bit already. I like it. The watch becomes a little bit more mine as we get dinged up together. It isn’t sapphire, and does not behave like sapphire.

Among my favorite tidbits of NASA history is from the Apollo 13 mission. When the crew used the moon’s gravity to turn them around and send them back towards earth, they were further away from home than any humans have ever been. Think of that.

I have been researching this watch for many months, watching videos and reading reviews etc. After having it on my wrist, I can say it definitely checks every box and exceedes expectations for me. The 40mm case with short, turned down lugs wears perfect, even on my smaller wrist. The case height is in the midrange level but still thin enough to wear under a cuff. The galvanic silver dial with the heat blued hands, the polished silver hour markers, and sharp black indices & text is stunning. The assymetric layout really draws your eyes in but doesn't throw off the readability. The moonphase is done beautifully and finished with the same intricate detail you'd expect. I love the way pano big date is executed as well. It has a subtle beveled frame with no divider and the separate numeral discs are on the same plane. That tiny detail creates a nice continuity. The 90-02 movement is a work of art in itself with multiple details and finishing techniques. It is one of the best finished movements.
